I need some help with my mid-game warring, I find I can totally decimate the AI up until the medieval era, I think it's in large part due to the fact they can upgrade cheaply and they start spitting out newer units faster so I end up getting overwhelmed with less units and being left with more outdated troops.

It's a big problem because I only like to go for conquest/domination.

I was recently playing a game as Genghis Khan and I was in the top tier for score, power, and tech but after my third war with Rome I started to fold and at the end he just overwhelmed me with units.

How do you guys make the transition into the new units without crashing your economy or science while at the same time keeping up in units and upgrades?

How do you pay to upgrade obsolete units? (do you delete or upgrade?)

How do you stay ahead in techs while transitioning?

How do you support your expansion? and how do you keep your flank protected when your running a campaign through enemy lands? I find it's very difficulty to mount an offensive into enemy lands while at the same time protecting not only the cities your conquering but also your home.

Do you guys launch an offensive with a stack or do you split yours up creating two+ stacks and attack in different areas?

Do you guys fight wars of attrition before you launch into enemy territory? and do you sit back and let them come to you before you go for them?

It also may be worth mentioning I'm playing with Aggressive AI, so that has to be factored in. They come at me with thirty plus units in waves and it's very hard to keep up with there production rates while keeping infastructure and my tech pace going while protecting my new cities from there counter attacks.

 :old:

First of all you shouldn't think any kind of transitioning unless you really have to. Keep pumping out new units and put your olds ones to border or coastal cities to wait an upgrade as ter part of a game you make tons of money. I almost never delete my units. Unit expenses are little if compated to other expenses ie maintances although too manys units at the beginning can ruin your economy totally. If situation is critical, check trade for money and run science slider at 0% of course it's going to cost you but nothing you can do.

Even you are at war keep at least 4 units at border cities epsecially border of your enemy.

To split or not, it's situationable I've had games where splitting won me a war. Some border or coastal cities with nice resources can fall very easily and are not something to be overlooked.

It's highly recommended that you start a war. Although it's matter of military strength and production but attacker has a big advantage ie if you are at enemy capital and AI still moving it's units.

About aggressive AI. I've played 4 games with aggressive AI and actually won one by Domination and the amount of units it's just insane. Don't be afraid to turn half of your cities into unit factories and in my opinion is good idie to keep two kind of stacks. Anti-stack stack and city raider stack. Did I forgot to mention bribing is a must with aggressive AI.

Farming GM works perfectly on Prince- (Warlords) and all way up to Emperor (BtS) as AI tech more slowly. ie farm a GM, tech to macemens, upgrade and attack.

Thanks for the repy
