This is a just for fun thread, for people to come up with historical conditions for the various civs to achieve. You can add an extra challenge to your game this way, or simply use it to win the game the way the civ really should. :) For example:

China:
Found Confucianism and Toaism
Be the first to research Civil Service, Machinery, Gunpowder
Have the largest population by the Industrial era
Build the following Great Wonders: Bank Of China Tower, Famen Temple, Porcelain Tower, Shaolin Temple, Sun Tzu's Art Of War, The Great Wall, Three Gorges Dam, Wudang Mountain

Or, perhaps if you are playing on the GEM map:

Celts:
Found Druidic Traditions
Be the first to research Iron Working
Control the following regions: France, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Northern Italy
Destroy the Roman civilization
Build the following wonders: Blarney Castle, Edinburgh Castle, Hill of Tara

Rome:
Spread Christianity to 80% of the world population
Be the first to research Papacy
Control the following regions: France, England, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, The Balkans, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, The Levant, Mesopotamia, Egypt, North Africa
Build the following wonders: Apostolic Palace, Circus Maximus, Flavian Amphitheatre, Holy See Library, Pont du Gard, Saint Mark's Basilica, The Sistine Chapel, Via Appia

For those people who just want to play through existing history as normal. It could be an option to end the game in our modern era as well. (it will encourage people who don't want to play the future stuff to enjoy C2C more - historical purists and all. May also encourage more amateur historians, like Vokyara to participate in our discussions and development.)

Idea: I really think we need to consider starting/ending/choosing which eras you want to play as a game option.
Toggling the Dark Ages (when we develop it), can be a great option to see how history would flow. It can also be really fun.
It think it should be considered at a priority at some point. (hopefully in the next year.)
What does everyone think?

That's a very ambitious concept to include HRL... VERY ambitious indeed! So many civs, so many definitions would be necessary! I love the idea but wonder as to how realistic it could be to expect we could ever work it out into a workable system.

@RF: About Dark Ages. I think they do need to be considered eventually and a mechanism for them should be defined (I proposed that they be created by Anti-Great People a while back so that's still where I'd be headed with the concept eventually.) But keep in mind that Afforess tried it and it was very poorly received in general (I'm not sure why exactly since I wasn't there for that - coulda just been really buggy I don't know.)

So its not a project to take lightly anyhow is all I'm getting at.

After thinking about it, I really like your idea of flavored CIV specific starting and ending game options and goals, hotrodlincoln. Really helping frame and go with C2C's culture development. With the recent culture and leader trait innovation it almost like making Civilization in the game, actual roleplaying characters to be developed and played (hint: more of these ideas would be great.)
Even for fun it is a great ongoing discussion to be had.
I really think this is a great idea to consider at some point. Glad to see your involvement, and I hope you take some ownership of developing and discussing this idea, as well as coming up with more like it. Great job! :)

Your end of era or someone else's end of era? An era ends when a tech is gained not everyone gets that tech at the same game turn.
