History questions not worth their own thread II

I believe its possible to beat Spain before the ACW kicks off and ruins the fun.

Yeah, it is; I just did it yesterday morning. Amazingly, the ACW didn't pop until like 1862, and I still hadn't gotten Whigs or Republicans in a majority in the upper house, let alone winning an election.

Did you nab Cuba only or did you go for more than that?

If we were to annex something large, it would/should have been Canada. And Cuba. We should have annexed Cuba. And Haiti.

If the Spanish-American War had happened 20-30 years earlier, we probably would have annexed it. But anti-Imperialist voices started to organize and make many Americans realize the hypocrisy of having colonies (it didn't stop us, but it limited us to small places or places far out of sight of Americans).

We would have had difficulty annexing it before the Civil War as well, but that's only because it was guaranteed to be a Slave state and that would provoke far too much controversy.

Just Cuba; Spain was in Russia's SoI so unfortunately I spent most of the war dealing with doomstacks floating down from Alaska.

I never tend to build much more than the starting fleet until Monitors and Ironclads pop up.

I'm looking for the name of a Turkish-born commander for the Holy Roman Empire (don't know specifically if he attained the rank of Generalfeldmarschall) that converted to Roman Catholicism and then swore his allegiance to the Habsburgs against the Ottoman Empire. I think he was active in the 17th century, but it might've been the 16th or 18th.

So can no-one help any further about the Belgian graves I mentioned earlier?

You really want philippe for that, and he ain't here. :undecide:

At least Ziggy Stardust is from Netherlands, I think. Maybe you should ask him? (He resides in the OT more than here).

EDIT:

Lets see:

Picture 1.
On top: Buried somewhere else in this burial
Middle: Matroos = Sailor
Bottom: Died for Belgium

Picture 2:
Top: latin
Middle: Naval Officer
Bottom: Roses.

Picture 3, same as Picture 1.

Hope that helps :)

(I believe the top of the middle one is French though, and says the same that the first one: "buried elsewhere in this cemetery", but don't take my word for it)

Yes, the Constitution of 1791. Then, under the Republic, the Constitutions of 1793 and 1795. And under Napoleon, the Constitutions of the Year VIII, Year X, and Year XII (1800, 1802, 1804 respectively).

Also, Sacks would verbally assault you for not knowing the Constitution of 1791. Or perhaps go off on a tangent about American Idol.
