Hitler and Art

Just what are they protesting? You shouldn't be able to buy Hitler's art because he was a bad person. Let’s also burn Mien Kampf.

His art isn't that great, but I wouldn't mind having one. Hitler fascinates me in a "What if ..." kind of way. Owning one of his paintings would be a connection to a turning point in history.

Has anybody else read Martin Gilbert's The Second World War: a complete history? In many ways its not really a very good history, but it's full of personal accounts and details of individual action that make the war personal in a way that I've never found any where else. A piece of Hitler's art would conjure those people and events in a more real way than just having Mr. Gilberts book on my shelf can do.

Alright, let's compare Hitler's paintings with those of another Austrian guy at the same time, Gustav Klimt.

I don't want to sound elitist or anything, but you expect from Artist to surprize yourself in making you feel something special.

Hitler's drawings are very descriptive and based on very old and very mainstream techniques. Maybe he could have done a carreer in advertising or book illustrations, but that would be it.

I believe Stalin and Mao also wrote poetry. It's interesting to note that some of the worse leaders in history were artistic.
To be evil is an art.

BTW, that picture is awfull.

Nope!

to the OP: great post.

I have been a WW2 fan most of my life. And many years ago someone bought me a book on Albert Speer. Who was Hitlers personal Architect. And it was a really really interesting book. But in my many many MANY moves since then, it sadly got lost. Any way you could post some of the Architectural stuff too? I know most of the buildings, but it would still make a great read.
