HN02-B The Jihadist Power of Religion

Nice work Pigswill.

Yep we overexpanded but at least no one can settle on the island. I agree with COL/ and academy. That seems the best approach right now. I guess disbanding doesn't help considering HR.

Well, this might be a personal record. I'm up next in 4 out of my 5 SGs. This after sitting around all weekend long with only one SG to play. Sheesh, go figure. I can pick up and play tomorrow evening, but no sooner.

That's fine Frankcor no hurries....

I played 10 turns, mostly uneventful. At the start, I traded some hammers and commerce for food in Mecca and hired a scientist, cutting Code of Laws from 22 turns to 16. But our cashflow suffers a bit, dropping to -2/turn at 20%. But over the course of time, as cities grew and cottages matured, the cash flow situation improved.

In 1262 AD, Baghdad finished a Lighthouse and began building a Work Boat. When it was finished, I dispatched it to sail around the NorthWest corner of our island to harvest fish off the coast of Basra and started work on an Axeman. The boat may have to park in Basra for some time, waiting for the cultural borders of that town to expand. In order to make that happen, the workers at Basra have been directed to construct an Obelisk. I urge my successors to construct Obelisks in other cities to help them to work on more fruitfull territory.

I am humbled to report so little but that is all that happened during my Regency. Our economy has improved somewhat and will continue to do so through the construction of cottages throughout our lands.

I will pick this up tomorrow some time but consider this "I got it".

Adamlan

That is a good Mike Oldfield song. Will mark you skip until you get back.

This game has some real challenges and just played (20 turns as I was hitting enter a lot) and managed to get philo and trade for construction for colosseums. We met Asoka who we traded with and is weaker than we are. We now can see the other continent. After COL started Math and finished and now on Calender for the silk. I would say after that maybe start techs towards compass/optics so we can get over to other continent and meet the rest. I was going to put up a report but instead will just post the save since most of it is hitting enter. We need currency too but our research is very slow right now even with two scientists in Mecca. I think maybe put Mecca on wealth eventually if we can.

Considering most of us are active in the SGOTM02 don't worry about picking it right away and take your time.

I have a bad feeling about this. (How many times did we hear that in Star Wars)

Codeman hasn't posted a "got it" and I am beginning to feel we don't have much hope of winning this game. Basically had we started with other civs we would have had a chance as I am playing in a game (emperor) where we were isolated but civs were nearby and found with galleys, and doing very well. Adamlan/Xtream haven't played much due to skips and I feel when they do play again won't know much about the game and bring us in the wrong direction. Last turn Adamlan overexpanded (he was following the signs I put up but they were intended for future use). I would have taken my time settling them. Now our science is terrible and we are falling behind barely having the ability to even trade for techs. The other civs (other than Asoka) won't have anything to trade (like Julius) so getting caught up isn't likely.

It seems to me we are just going through the motions here and if everybody is in agreement I am declaring this a loss (well we lost already the first try) and ending this game. I sense a lack of interest and enjoyed playing with you guys in HN01 very much. That game was very enjoyable and this one well the stupid RNG just dealt us a lousy hand. Had we not overexpanded we might have had a slight chance. I am not blaming Adamlan since he just followed the signs and with so many skips could not have known what was needed. I did notice in his post prior to that game he wanted to know what to do. I really didn't notice until after he played and felt that if a player skips quite a bit he should read through the thread to get a feel of what is needed. I notice that when a person is out of the loop for a while they just follow the order as such and loose individual perspective. I would rather see a player make a mistake initiating their own play style than just following the order of things. Sometimes the order of things isn't the right thing to do at the time and we should question it. Again it's just a game and in the end it doesn't matter. We tried and that's what counts but now I feel it isn't going to go anywhere and should end it before it becomes "not fun" for us.

EDIT: If anybody wants to continue they are more than welcome. I personally have "overplayed" civ and want to give it a break for a while and just do what I have on my plate now. Maybe mid September I might post another SG but for now I am going to take a break.

I tend to agree with you that carrying on is kind of flogging a dead horse ; nothing to do with over-expanding, that's just a temporary blip; more to do with isolated start and limited resources. Don't see much value in carrying on falling further behind so I'm happy to call it quits. Yeah, we lost!!

Actually I played it out on my own and got quite far (had science up to a point where it was near equal). No matter, again at this point it is flogging a dead horse so yeah we lost.

That's a thoughtful analysis, Cosmichail. I accept defeat and I'll definitely keep my eye out for any future SG announcements you might make. While our two attempts at this variant ended up in failure, I can still feel like a winner because I've made new friends playing here.

'till next SG, take care, all!
