HNDY09 Wonderless XAWM with additional restrictions

Sorry Handy. The link is now fixed with the proper save and proper upload.

Looking really good here. Glad to see the Celts are not building any Gallic Swords. Those retreating 3.2.2 units are more of a PITA than 4.2.1 MI.
Switch research to Mono then Chivalry.
We need to irrigate grassland in corrupt cities so we can hire scientists to get to chivalry faster.
I switched Colina to a settler. At this stage of the game barracks in 1 spt cities (or 2spt) won’t do us any good. Settlers are a better build. We should irrigate the cities of Colina, Rio Janeiro, and Sao Paulo and hire scientists.
I’ll try to raze Beijing and get that city by the horses out of the way. More slaves for us, and it will cripple the Chinese.
We have many core tiles to improve.
I also switched all Pikes to MI. We are on offense from here on out, and given this is a tiny map we won’t need Pikes.

Oh, I noticed a big stack of slaves. We were supposed to kill these guys since we are playing XAW, but I guess we can just keep them. This game has tipped, so killing them would just drag it out.

Turn 1 360
Found Badajoz
Healing with an eye toward razing the horse city next turn.
Switch from Engineering to Mono with an eye toward chivalry.
Bu irrigating the corrupt cities we can hire scientists to cut the research time.

Turn 2 370
Lower Lux and raise Science. Now we have 13 turns to Mono. The settler is heading toward the Gems.
Three Elite kills but no leader.

Turn 3 380
We don’t have any markets, so I put the two cities that can build them the quickest on market builds. As a rule of thumb I try to have 2 cities on infrastructure in AW games. The bigger the map and the higher the difficulty the more important it becomes. I usually build markets before Libraries.

Turn 4 390
Raze Lugdunum. I’ll colonize the incense next turn. :D
Raze Beijing and see wines. We lost one sword at Beijing. Still no leader.

Turn 5 400
Incense colonized.

Turn 6 410
Found Gems on the Gems. We are up to six luxuries. We will take Shanghai out next turn.
Turn 7 420
Raze Shanghai.
Lose a sword near incense.

Turn 8 430
Raze Nanking

Turn 9 440
Moving units.
I’m irrigating some corrupt tiles to farm scientists and I brought a few workers back to the core.

Turn 10 450
I’ve got a stack of 12 cats, swords and MI making a move on the Celts. Perhaps we could send the remaining cats from Incense hill over to help Raze China after you are sure the Celts will no cause any trouble.

Notes:
There is a settler on the NW corner of the great lake near the Fish. I was going to settle on top of the horses. This would be 2 tiles from Incense Hill, and should be safe, but you will want to reinforce it. There are 2 archers near Guarda heading to reinforce the horses.
We have basically spilt the Pangaea in two. The east is the Celts and to the west are China and Persia.
We can drag the cats and MI around to kill off the Celts. If we get a leader, you can send it off to kill the Chinese and Persians.

One stack of cats & swords versus the Celts, and another in the east to keep the pressure on China and Persia should work well.

Keep growing those cities. Size 7 supports two extra units in Monarchy.
After we get Chivalry we can shut down research and start rushing temples. We can research engineering with scientists if you want to, but we don’t really need it so much when we get knights. It’s nice, but no really needed.

Nice job team. :D

IT - Celtic MI dies against Evora's walls, Chinese drop off archer.

460 AD (1) - Kill Chinese archer, move on Alesia.

470 AD (2) - Alesia razed, two swords and one Celtic MI killed in the process. All victories elite.

IT - Lost a pike and spear.

480 AD (3) - Kill Celtic MI with elite.

IT - Lose a sword, kill an archer.

490 AD (4) - Camulodunum razed, two pikes and MI killed.

IT - The MI that razed Cam. was killed.

500 AD (5) - I guess no fighting.

510 AD (6) - Kill immortal. Then, in attack on Entremont, finally get a great leader, Viriato.

520 AD (7) - Killed Chinese archer, Immortal.

IT - Persians appartently have RoP with China, and manage to kill a spear and MI while losing an immortal. Oops.

530 AD (8) - Assault on Canton doesn't go particularly well.

540 AD (9) - Make up for the less the brilliant past few turns. Though cats go 3/15 overall, units go 6-0.

550 AD (10) - Raze something Celtic, go 4-0 all in all for a nice end to my turns.

Everything is pretty scattered looking, which I am sorry about. The Celts should fall relaitively soon, probably in the next set of 10, and the Chinese haven't posed any threat. generally the random units out in the open were attacking lone immortals. Since the hookup of horses, I have been using them to scout for units in the mist before attacking if the odds would be against them. Just keep pumping settlers and start rushing temples soon. Land area increased by 8% during my turns, I think, so we are definitely closing in on victory.

By the way, we have a sword army, not MI. It was a sword that popped the leader, and it didn't make a difference to me whether it was sword or MI.

Watch for immortals in the fog. Whenever we have defenders to go along with the settlers, turn this area purple.

preturn: I raise sci to get Chivalry next turn. Yup, we do have horses now. :)

Celts is OCC, terrific! And China is 3CC without any resources so no riders. :goodjob:

Is Persia on an island? Hope not!

I really don't think we need to settle more. Conquest will be way faster I guess? I switch core cities to military.

I laugh at AI's face as I see none of the great wonders are built.

IBT Chivalry->Engineering. I guess it's the last tech we need.

(1)560AD: Persia dropped an immortal next to Alcer Do Sal, which has only one spear. All nearby towns are empty. This is not good.

I rush market in Lisbon.

IBT we lose an elite MDI to celts. The immortal dies against our spearman.

(2)570AD: Our cats redline pike and spear and we raze Richborough easily. We destroy celts. Disband 5 slaves. We get a bunch of gold. I upgrade two horses. Set Engineering in 4 turns.

We encounter an immortal and it promotes our regular swordman. Kill a Chinese spearman.

IBT China starts Knights Templar.

(3)580AD: I just found out we have slaves! Mostly Chinese. I stop them and disband. We are not allowed to have them!

IBT an immortal comes out of the fog from north and kills our elite spear.

(4)590AD: kill the immortal. Persia founded a town close to us.

We found Cacela and have furs.

Kill two spearmen and raze Chengdu. Two knights retreat from elite spearman in Xinjian!

(5)600AD:

(6)610AD: We get Engineering and shut off research. Kill a spearman but there is another spear and archer in Hangchow.

IBT lose a horseman to Chinese archer.

(7)620AD: Kill two spearmen and we raze Hangchow. Upgrade another horse.

Sword army and knight autoraze Samaria.

Lose a sword but kill an immortal.

Chinese founded a new town.

(10)650AD:

Lose one MDI but kill two spearmen and raze Xinjian. 3 knights kill two spearmen and one archer in Macao and we destroy China.

I'm building some regular pikes too in corrupt cities as it shouldn't matter.

We are moving toward Persia. We have gold that you can rush knights. I built two markets and now we are making 105gpt. Persia has at least one town in the north across the coast, so we should start moving some forces over there.

It may be easier to build a bunch of settlers and temple a la grs, and win by domination.

Preflight check: Hurry a couple of galleys and a pike. Also rush 2 knight and a settler. A horse heads back for upgrade.

IBT: Persians are building KT.

T1: 660AD Found Óbidos. Upgrade a horse. Move Knights NW.

T2: 670AD getting cats into position for next Persian town.

T3: 680AD Found Nazaré

T4: 690AD At Gordium: bombard pike and spear to 1hp; Knight kills pike; elite sword kills spear and we take the town. No improvements to sell so I raze it.
At Pasargada: army kills pike (10/13)
Found Avis

IBT: Lose the elite sword to an Immortal

T5: 700AD Redline single pike in Pasargadea and kill it with an archer. Sell barracks and abandon.
Near former Gordium: Knight retreats from Immortal; 3/5 MDI kills it.

T6: 710AD Drop off 3 MDI’s and 1 pike next to the Persian city on the island to the NE (Sardis)

T7: 720AD At Sardis: MDI kills spear (2/4); elite MDI kills spear; elite MDI kills archer and we take the town, sinking 1 boat
Redline an immortal with cats near Bissau and kill it with a ¾ knight.

IBT: lose 2 knights to immortal counters.

T8: 730AD redline defenders in Arbela and kill with knights, getting 1 promotion.
Nearby, 1 knight retreats and the other kills & promotes on an immortal in the open.

T9: 740AD We have an too much gold so I rush a bunch of knights.

T10: 750AD Redline 2 of 3 defenders in Persepolis, then kill 2 with the army and 1 with a knight, razing the city.
Kill 2 pikes and an immortal at the cost of 2 knights but take Bactra and raze it.

2 galleys are headed to the point. another galley was rushed last turn in Obidos. hopefully, the landmass curls around up there but i have a feeling it won't. good luck and have fun closing it out :hammer:

Pre-flight – Change Cacela to a galley. Xerxes is down to three cities and is short iron.

IBT – The barbs are the biggest issue. Produce a galley.

1. 760 AD – The last two Persian cities are on an island. One last city on the mainland.

@ Antioch – Lose an elite knight to a spear. Kill the two defenders and raze it. Hurry a galley. Change Tomar to a galley and hurry it. Send the settlers to the northern coast.

2. 770 AD – Hurry some more galleys. Collect 75G from some barbs to help in our ship building effort.
3. 780 AD – Found Atoleiros on the northern coast. Start a galley. Disband a cat to short rush it then rush it.
4. 790 AD - Found Mina. Land our first forces on the northern island.
HNDY9-790ADLandings.jpg

IBT – Persia wants to talk. Ha!

5. 800 AD - @ Sidon – Kill the defending spear. Check for something to sell and raze it.
HNDY9-800ADFinalAssault.jpg

6. 810 AD - @ Tyre – Kill one spear, lose a knight. Persian destroyed.

7. 820 AD

We’re magnificent. Three of my top four games in the Hall of Fame are Handy games.

Here’s the final save. You just need to attack Tyre and win.
