Hello to all hockey fans/fanatics!

The hockey season is just around the corner and it's time to get some action here!

What's you predictions? Will Detroit win again? Will Forsberg's return boost Denver to the top once again? (looking at you Floppa) Will the Rangers finally buy...hum...win some games? What about the Caps and Jagr? Iginla? Theodore? Free agents?

Bring it on!

Detroit will, once again, be the team to beat in the NHL this year.
Hasek replaced by Joseph = same freaking team! So yes, they're getting old, they were old last year and they won the Cup so don't underestimate them.

Lucky for us, they won't be able to go for a second shot at Lord Stanley's trophy as they'll get their ass kick by Colorado! You guessed it! The Avalanches are my pick for this year's championship. With the return of Peter Forsberg and a team that still has Roy, Sakic, Hejduk, Tangay, Drury, Reinprecht, Foote, Blake, etc...they'll be a real menace to anyone in the west.

San Jose ( Selanee, Nolan, Marleau, Stuart, etc...)also has a pretty good team, so does Dallas (Modano, Hatcher, free agent Bill Guerin, etc...), St-Louis and Los Angeles. But Colorado will come out of the western conference.

In the east, the Flyers and Devils will probably battle for the top spot followed closely by Toronto.

Ed Belfour (Crazy Eddy for his pals) will probably be able to replace Cujo and the Leafs still have a pretty good team...the absence of Gary Roberts might hurt a littl but he'll be back soon enough.

The Flyers have a great team and represent a real offensive threat with the likes of Leclair, Gagné, Primeau, Recchi, Roenick, Williams, Desjardins, etc... But I'm kind of afraid of how new coach Ken Hitchcock will try to run things. He's mainly a defensive kind of coach and this might cause some problems with star players like Jeremy Roenick who is not afraid to speak his mind in public.

Pat Burns is back in the NHL! That's a good news for anyone who ever heard this man give an interview! He is honest and direct and this makes him a great "player" coach. That New Jersey team is use to this kind of coach (Larry Robinson) and will react very well to the change. With the departure of Holik to NY city, Scott Gomez is going to have to step up and raise his game level. Tverdovsky, Niedermayer and Rafalski is the best trio of offensive defense player in the league.

In Manhattan, the Rangers have made some big change. Dan Blackburn is now the main man between the pipes and Richter will back him up, helping his progression has a number one goaltender. The addition of Darius Kasparaitis to an already all-star defensive staff (Leetch, Poti, Malakhov, Lefebvre, etc...) will make the front of the net a dangerous place to stand. Bobby Holik will also bring some big-time body presence on the ice. If Lindros satys in good shape and plays with Pavel all year, we might see some surprises in New York.

I'm not sure who will face Colorado in the final but, quite frankly, I'm almost sure the Avalanches will crush whoever comes out of there.

My favorite team is still the Habs. Montréal sucked for years and it's damn time things get back to normal in this league. The Canadiens have to be succesfull for hockey to shine. With MVP Theodore in the net and veteran overpaid Jeff Hackett on the bench, the Habs have the best goaltending duo in the league. The defense is getting better with the addition of 2000 first round pick Ron Hainsey and the coming out of Andrei Markov. You add Brisebois, Quintal and Rivet and you have a pretty damn good defensive squad. There's also the giant called Mike Komisarek who played for Michigan (7th pick overall last year) who might make the transition in the NHL latter this year.
Koivu is back in shape, so is Audette. André Savard signed Randy McKay and traded for Marius Czerkawski. Doug Gilmour agreed to saty one more year. There's also Zednik, speedster Oleg Petrov, Perreault, Marian Hossa's younger brother Marcel, Ribeiro...

The Habs won't win the Cup this year, hell, they're going to have troubles making the playoffs with the strong competition that we have now, but they'll be competitive and that's all I want...for now!

HELLO?? What happenned to the Bruins?!?! Just because they lost free agent Bill Guerin doesn't mean they're out of it. Who finished first in the east last year. Bruins. So they got bounced out by Montreal, but hey, they are pretty good themselves. Still though, the Bruins have Rolston, Thorton, Samsonov, Sweeny, Gill, Shields, and an all around fundementally sound team.

Oh yeah, Detroit is way to old a team to win it (again) and Yzerman is out 'till Dec/Jan but Colorado does look pretty nice

GO BRUINS

The Bruins aren't dead. They still are a really good team but they'll suffer from the lost of Bill Guerin AND Byron Dafoe.
There's no doubt in my mind that they will be in the playoffs, they still are a force but Guerin's 40 goals and Dafoe's netminding will be missed.
I can't wait until the first Habs-Bruins matchup of the year! :goodjob:

Here are my predictions in the East:

*1- Philadelphia
*2- Toronto
*3- Washington
4- New Jersey
5- Boston
6-
7- The 6,7,8,9 and 10 place will be hardly fought by
8- Montréal, Ny Rangers, Ny Islanders, Carolina, and
9- Ottawa.
10-
11- Pittsburgh
12- Buffalo
13- Tampa Bay
14- Atlanta
15- Florida

Flyers on top? No way! They are not better than last year. So I don't see how they could improve.

After thinking, I change my mind and agree with you. The Flyers haven't improved but the others strong teams have been weakned. Washington has lost Oates, Toronto has lost Joseph, New Jersey has lost Sykora, NY Islanders has lost Czerkawski and
Boston has lost Guerin so I guess they are the best team in the east.

It's not only that.
The arrival of Ken Hitchcock behind the bench will give some direction to this team. He's well known as a defensive coach and, if he plays his cards right, he might be able to install his system.
Philadelphia's muscles as to be use and under Hitchcock it just might happen.

The trade that send Brian Boucher to Pheonix seem to have prove once and for all that Roman Chechmanek is the number one goalie in the city of brotherly love. It will be excellent for stability and the players will have more faith in their goaltender.

If anything, the Wings are getting younger, not older with all the draft picks that are shaping up to be good players, and Colorado was dumb enough to trade away Drudry for nothing, so im thinking that we will win the cup again, but maybe not win as a many games in the regular season as last year. If Forsberg or Skaic get ingured during the playoffs, Colorado is majorly screwed, where Detroit has a lot of played who can score.

I haven't really been following Detroit's training camp so I could be wrong but, beside Datsyuk, could you name those young players that will be able to have an impact THIS year? The Wings are great, but their better players are getting really old. Shanahan, Yzerman, Robitaille, Hull, Larionov and Chelios only have a couple of years left before retirement. Datsyuk, Williams, Devereaux, Wallin are all good players but not impact players, not this year.

The trade for with Calgary hurts Colorado's offensive power but the addition of Derek Morris at the blue line will be AWESOME for the Avalanches defense. He is a future superstar, he can hit, he can score goals and he makes great first pass. You also have to keep in mind that defenseman take more time to mature in this league. Pronger wasn't a great until he reached 25 years old...and he was a phenomenom for his age! Morris will fit just well with Blake Foote and Skoula. Of course, losing Drury and defense specialist Yelle is not very good. McAmmond can produce if he plays with Forsberg or Sakic. Hejduk and Tangay are very good players so Colorado still has some good depht.

But as I said, the Wings are getting old but they still are the team to beat during the regular season...the cup is going back to Denver thought! ;)

My predictions for the West

1. Detroit*
2. Colorado*
3. San Jose*
4. Dallas
5. Vancouver
6. Chicago
7. Los Angles
8. St. Louis
9. Edmonton
10. Phoenix
11. Calgary
12. Minnisota
13. Anaheim
14. Nashville
15. Columbus

A little explanation

Detroit - Still the most powerful team in the league, but no real youth, doomed to post season failure.

Colorado - Will have great season and greater post season because of Forsbergs health and the new addition of Morris. Roy will have another great year.

San Jose - Will be dominent in the Pacific all around great team, but they don't have what it takes to win the cup.

Dallas - Either will do good or will fail miserably, new additions need time to gel, sometimes they don't, last year was an example. Call it the New York Trade Symtom.

Vancouver - Bertuzzi and Naslund will continue to be dominent and with a possible addition of Dafoe they could become a sleeper. If they win one playoff series look for some intresting things.

Chicago - People write them off you shouldn't

Etc.

I don't see gUerin as a big loss to Boston. Sure he can put up numbers, but how easy is it to goad him into STUPID penalties?! Goodness... Dallas will find out soon enough.

In the West, Detroit is missing Yzerman until at least January? And Pronger is off from the Blues until around then also? Colorado needs to have a good start. These two players are huge for their respective teams... Also, I don't know about Detroit. Cujo is not Hasek. Bowman is gone. And as a pal of mine pointed out, Bowman knew how to work the officials. Like him or not, he was good at it and that could be a factor however small. They do have this Zederberg or whatever his name was. Swedish kid, supposed to be pretty good from what I hear...

Avalanche traded away Drury for Derek Morris. We needed a solid defenseman and we got him. (for nothing) Drury will definitely be missed though. But, CO has plenty of forwards, too many in fact. Centers converting to wing and all...

San Jose, they will be good again. And I wouldn't mind seein the LAQueens miss the playoffs. Crap team and crap fans. Don't want em, don't need em.

A

You've put Anaheim on 13 place. May I remind you that they got Sykora and, more importantly, Oates. With him Kariya may well be one of the top 3 scorer.

Stll, though, Anamheim will not be a contender for the playoffs. Remeber, you need offense which they have, defense and goaltending which they are pretty bad in

Guy Hebert always had a decent save percentage. If he hadn't faced 90 shots a night, who knows what his numbers would like now...

Giguere is up and coming. Could be really good in a few years. I'm amazed that they could be the West Coast Rangers with the financial backing they have, except they care nothing about hockey. GOTTA be one of the worst run franchises. And Kariya saying he does not want to be traded? He will. He will.

The young Red Wings are: Mathieu Dandenault, Boyd Devereaux, Sean Avery (who I really think will be something else),and Jiri Fischer.

they have a good young core of players to build on. Does the same guy own the Wings and the Tigers? That is the question we've been asking here in Detroit for years.

Like I wrote:

Datsyuk, Williams, Devereaux, Wallin are all good players but not impact players, not this year.

You can add Avery, Dandenault and Fisher if you want. I'm not saying the Wings don't have a bright future ahead of them, I'm only saying that they don't have great young impact players for THIS year. Their stars are the oldest players on the team. Sometimes it's a good thing (look at last year), but I just don't think the old wings will be able to repeat this year. We know how long and hard the playoffs get in may and june. They have a GREAT team, I don't think they'll win again this year thought.

Tiens Tiens De Lorimier reste sur le plateau!!!

Montreal in 6... :)

Et oui, je demeure dans cet antre de la superficialité, des modes et tendances, heureusement mon cerveau me permet d'échapper à cet enfer  ;)

I'm beggining to think, even if they had a rough start, that Montréal might fight for the top spot in the north-east division with the Bruins and Maple Leafs. Maybe I'm just drunk on hockey fever! Anyway, if they play smart and I mean smart, even the GM (trading Audette? WTH?), that team may be a huge surprise this year. They'll get beat in the first round if they don't get some muscles thought.

Datsyuk, Williams, Devereaux, Wallin, Dandenault, Devereaux, Avery, Fischer.

 Datsyuk. Zederberg. That is it. End of list. Look at an outside report of farm systems as far as ranking and depth. Wings are not very high up. And as for the players on the above list minus Datsyuk, well... I would say they are serviceable at best. But that's my opinion.

Not just trying to knock the Wings though. Avs have too many forwards in NHL and farm system, not enough defense or goaltending. I tell you, David Aebischer starting 50-60 games a season? I shudder at the thought! And we dumped Denis over Aebischer... <sigh>

LA makes playoffs each year. Just not past first round. So top 10, well, at least top 16... ;)
