HoF/GOTM in Mac App Store Version

I would like to participate in HoF and GOTM games and am uncertain of the correct (legal) settings and how to correctly set the game preferences.

As far as I'm aware, the Mongolia DLC is the only one allowed. Now, with the recent update (1.0.1.511) of the App Store version the Ancient Wonders DLC came free. Starting a game, saving it, and then just before loading it you can check what DLCs are in place. I see that I also have the Babylon DLC and something called "Upgrade 1", as well as the Mongolia and Wonders DLCs installed.

I couldn't find an obvious way to toggle on/off the DLCs. By accessing package contents of Civ 5 in the finder, I moved the folders titled DLC 1, DLC 2, etc to another location and that seemed to disable them.

So my questions are:
- is there a better way to disable DLCs on the App Store version?
- what is "Upgrade 1" and can it be active in HoF/GOTM games?

Can any Mac GOTMers provide insight?

Thanks

P.S. The FAQ still claims "The Mac App Store version has not caught up yet" re:current version of Civ5.

Hi, welcome :wavey:

You shouldn't need to disable the DLC when you load a game that doesn't need it. The game will simply not load it. GOTM start files only require Mongolia and Upgrade 1, and they will not load the others if you have them.

The only reason to disable a DLC pack is if you are playing a new game that you create yourself, and you do not want that DLC to be included in your game. This applies to HoF games, but GOTM start files are pre-built, so you do not need to worry for GOTMs. leif Erikson has to ensure that there are no other active DLCs installed on his system when he creates the GOTM saves.

Upgrade 1 is in a DLC folder called "Shared", and it contains a few extras such as stone as a resource, the stone quarry improvement, waterfall sound effects, and some others. I think it comes with all versions of Civ5 now. I don't know whether the GOTM saves take advantage of the extras it provides.

Thanks for the note about the FAQ. I'll fix it.

Hi AlanH, thanks for the welcome… after half a year of lurking it's good to be here!

Yes, quite - I should have restricted my comments to the HoF games. But both the GOTM and the gauntlets look like good fun!

I've started the current minor gauntlet having removed all folders except for "DLC_01" and "Shared" from the DLC folder. Still, it seems a bit of a fiddle-y way about it. Forgetting multiplayer, the HoF (and GOTM) games are exactly what Civ needs, IMO.

Thanks for your response. :goodjob:

You also need to delete the Babylon.Civ5Pkg from inside the DLC_Deluxe folder for the Gauntlets and all the DLC0X Folders except 1 (Mongolia). There is no easy way of doing this (neither for MAC nor Windows). I backed up the whole DLC directory on another drive and made a shortcut on my desktop to the DLC folder for quicker access (X:\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\assets\DLC)... and a shortcut to the savegame directory as well. I hope they learn from this and make it better in their next game.
Spoiler :
(haha... just dreaming - a quick access ingame possibility to a) open the savegame directory and b) allow one to disable dlc quickly will never happen).
