Hi :)

The GOTM + HoF pages have been down for 2+ days now. There's an official announcement from AlanH that unfortunately doesn't say too much, therefor I politely ask if we could get an official statement from someone being directly responsible for the mentioned two pages.

Questions are:

1. What is wrong?

and:

2. How long will it take?

Tia,

The server needs a reboot. We have message into the person with access, but no response yet.

wow..that is really bad response time. Not supposed to work that way. I hope y'all get on their case.

Seems like a good idea to me, but I am not much in the loop on technical matters. I am not even really sure who has access to those controls except for Thunderfall, or where that server is (I am not sure if that is one located with the Atomic Gamer equipment, or a different one that Thunderfall has), I have just seen AlanH and ainwood discussing it. They can tell you more about that setup.

Edit: AlanH thinks that Thunderfall or his brother personally own the GOTM sever. He used to have remote access to the control panel, but it no longer accepts his password. It has no connection to our forums hosts. Likely just a matter of the password being changed some time ago and he forgot to heads up AlanH or ainwood.

I don't want to be indiscrete or something, but which methods do you have to contact Thunderfall and how much do you know him? Is it possible that he's on vacations for the next weeks? Does nobody has his telephone number?

I mean, this is a million-users website, I wonder that it's only so few who seem to care about this, I'd have expected users to revolt on this page, I'd have expected CivFanatics to go in anarchy 24h after this happened ^^ .

I believe AlanH prevented the worst with his announcement, but there must be something that can be done about this, probably something that doesn't involve Thunderfall. I'm sure that this site got hundreds of users that would be willing to provide a server to which several users would have access, if only the data could be migrated.

I have email and CFC private message and posts on CFC. ainwood who works with him on technical stuff additionally has a Facebook communication channel.

You could have seen that by looking at the moderator-names of this forum, but seems lymond made the same error ;) .

Contacting Thunderfall via Facebook should actually lead somewhere, users of that site usually read it every day, can't imagine that Thunderfall wouldn't answer if someone posted on his profile daily.

Regarding the HoF and GOTM pages having good backups, I hope that too (for Thunderfall ^^) . If not: I have saved every game I played for the HoF since the start, so I could easily re-submit most of them, but yes, if the server would need to rollback, it would be sort of a "Civfanatics-disaster" .

Let's pray that this doesn't need to happen, and that the server will be alright with a reboot. Thunderfall really should answer to his messages soon though. Even if he was on vacations, doesn't he has Tapatalk or at least an eMail-client on his smartphone? With today's push-services, he would get allerted instantly, I just cannot understand what's wrong currently. Nobody hosts a webpage like this and then just leaves for some weeks.

Don't know if it applies in this case but for some people going on vacation means ignoring everything from "normal" life until the vacation is over.

This is really bad. I would think that this event would be a prompt to rethink things and look at new options so that this doesn't happen again.

(serial - I know who Thunderfall is, but did not realize this particular connection. I thought it was completely 3rd party)

Well, at least remembering to to send AlanH and ainwood the changed password.
