HOF-IV: Beyond the Sword

The HOF mod does not seem to work with the Direct2Drive version. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Have you updated to the 3.03 patch? If so, than that is the problem. If not, how is your directories setup and what error are you getting?

thanks I didn't know that the 3.03 patch was out ... installing ...

nope, doesn't work

it just quits back to windows after finishing all the init's, it stops at the init Fonts (which is the last one) ... no error message or anything ...

Whoops, apparently I wasn't clear. The 3.03 patch won't work with the HOF mod. I wasn't suggesting you install it. The HOF mod will only work for version 3.02 and in fact, the patch isn't currently available for anyone other than Steam and Direct2Drive users.

When I start a game I get this HOF warning: This game is not valid for HOF use. See the settings page of the Victory Screen for details.

Under the settings page of the Victory Screen I see these messages:

Setting: CRCs are missing. This game can't be used.

Options: The following must be checked....Lock modified assets.

I can still play the game, but I want to make sure it will be accepted. Any idea on how I can fix this???

Thanks

Hi Jeff1787. That game wouldn't be accepted, no. It's the 2nd message about "Lock modified assets" that you need to pay attention to. That is an option that needs to be checked when starting a custom game. I don't think you can enable that option via play now, not sure if that's what you're using.

Would it be that difficult to mod "Play Now" to make it HOF legal?
The only thing that makes it a problem is checking "Locked Modified Assets". With the change in BTS, I wonder if you set it via custom games once, whether it will apply it to "Play Now". Otherwise, and for earlier versions, it would have to be some kind of SDK change to default it based on a HOF Option, so people can control it.

Actually a SDK change shouldn't be necessary, unless they changed something in BtS - I'll just quote myself from looooong ago ;)
Spoiler ...and :
edited a minor mistake in the original quote - wrong file name

A thought on Play Now:
given that play now for some reason no longer remembers settings for custom games is there a chance that you could include the following in the next releases for both Vanilla and Warlords:
Assets\XML\GameInfo\CIV4GameOptionInfos.xml
with the following change:

Code:
Type GAMEOPTION_LOCK_MODS
Description TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_LOCK_MODS
Help TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_LOCK_MODS_HELP
bDefault 0
changed to:

Code:
Type GAMEOPTION_LOCK_MODS
Description TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_LOCK_MODS
Help TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_LOCK_MODS_HELP
bDefault 1
This would force Lock Modified Assets on for both Play Now and Custom Games (obviously could be unchecked in Custom Games if wanted) - and would only do this when using the HOF-Mods. Thus you could use Play Now for HOF play without worrying about this setting...

:hmm:
currently:
you want to play HOF-Mod with LMA - you cannot play "Play Now", have to play "Custom Game" AND check LMA
with this change:
you want to play HOF-Mod withOUT LMA - you cannot play "Play Now", have to play "Custom Game" AND UNcheck LMA
- I definitely prefer the second way, but that is up to you guys. But I do have problems accepting that the second way somehow does not give players the option to not use LMA...

We allows prefer to make those kind of things be player controlled. Changing the XML would make any game played use LMA. Making it optional will require a SDK change to check the HOF ini file.

Is this easy to do? :)

assets problems are fixed...but for some reason my HOF crashes BtS when it runs. Very weird. It doesn't crash when I load the mod, it crashes when I try to start a game using the mod.

I get the exact same issue. It loads correctly and then when I try to start a game it dies on me instantly. I guess I will have to wait until the next round of patches.

What version of the HOF Mod?

Thrallia was having a problem with Blue Marble. It doesn't work with the BTS HOF Mod.

I was just coming back to say that removing blue marble fixed the issue. Now I have a hard choice to make. Do I play with ugly terrain or for glory? GIven that I still have an asset issue I may just break down and play for fun.

Try downloading the asset checker in this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=235573.

Post your file and we will see if we help with the asset problem. Please also post your HOF Mod and Civ4 version, your OS, and whether your Civ4 Vanilla version is Gold edition or STEAM.

Here are the results of the asset checker. I bought all copies of everything as retail CDs. My OS is windows XP sp2. I am using HOF mod 3.03.001 and the 3.03 patch for BTS. I did also install an updated options file from this board somewhere but I don't have the exact link.

That HOFSettings.txt file was for HOF-3.02.001. It also contains the values used by HOF Mod to do it's asset check. Try reinstalling HOF-3.03.001. The options are correct within that version.

If that doesn't clear the error, please save the assetchecker results and e-mail the csv file to hof.civfanatics@gmail.com. There are a few things not reported that we can picked up by comparison.
