HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

never had to update directx...it was updated when I installed BtS, same as vanilla and warlords being updated.

Is it worth noting that vanilla and warlords work perfectly fine under the new mods? Its only the BtS mod that crashes the game.

here's the .ini file, also zipped up.

and here's the other logs that were changed after I loaded the HOF mod.

just deleted the HOF mod folder, and reinstalled it again, just in case...
edit: yep, no change...

Are you sure you grabbed the right logs directory? I am seeing references to warlords in the debug file. It should be from my games\beyond the sword\logs. You can delete all the files there before starting a game to be sure to get the changed ones.

We probably also need to see a screen print of the first error message.

Could you tell me your OS again and whether you are using an account with admin rights?

using XP, only the one default user account, so I assume admin rights lol.

I'll get that screenshot up here, although it will likely help you less than the first one did lol.

I looked through the logs also, and was surprised to see those references to Warlords also. Not sure why they are there, but I already deleted the logs entirely after I had reloaded BtS with the mod and checked that I was indeed in the BtS directory. I am, and they were entirely empty when I tried to launch the game. It then froze immediately after hitting the launch button

here's the screenshot, I think the last one told me more than this one does...

I checked mine. They have references to Warlords as well. It seem that the next thing in the debug log would be loading the mapscript modules.

It might be worth sending the report to microsoft. Sometimes it will show you a webpage giving you information about what happened.

I have run out of things to look at. You might try reinstalling the directX using the referenced links instead of you CD.

In the end, something is different about your computer. The trick is figuring out what...:(

@ Thrallia: remind me, are you running Vista or XP?

Even with one account, I had the Bede file/folder priviledges issue in Vista ... have you looked into that?

Have you re-downloaded the mod, or just reinstalled from the first download. In the 05 maint thread, Mastif of Ar got the same message, his save download was incomplete.

Just some shots in the dark ...

I'd like to load a 1.61.011 game downloaded from the HoF. For the past several months, every time I try to load one of these I get an error saying it needs to load hof mod 1.16.008. It also complains that the mods/hof-1.61.008 directory is missing. Am I the only one with this problem?

That sounds familar. I think Dianthus has to make a change to the download process so it knows what the current version is. It sounds like it is stuck back at .008. I'll ask him about it.

Now I get the "Savefile is protected...." msg and "load failed" popup box.

Yeah, me too. But I have a work around that works for me. What I did was used the GHex hex editor under linux to replace 1.74.001 with the appropriate 1.61.0xx that the file originally had when uploaded. This works fine on my laptop which hasn't gotten the 1.74 upgrade yet like my main Ahtlon 3400+ home system. Now the files automatically load the 1.61.011 or 1.61.010 save files without a hitch. :D The 1.74.001 bit is in the first 20 characters of the save file and must be replaced by a hex editor, not a normal editor.

It seems to me that you shouldn't be changing the files original version because that prevents it from loading.

Hope that helps. Ironically, I wanted to look at games relevant to the Deity gauntlet going on now from WastinTime, (as well as from Jesusin, and Lexad). ;)

running xp, so no file/folder privileges to mess with.

I never save the installer .exe after downloading, I just tell it to save it, that way I don't need to delete it afterward...so I've deleted and redownloaded/installed the HOF mod three times now.

As far as directx updating goes...I really doubt that's the problem since BtS works perfectly fine if not running the HOF mod. For some reason though, the HOF mod makes the game freak out when trying to start up a game.

The only thing I could gather from the log files was that for some reason, upon launching a game using the HOF mod, it tried and failed to assign 300 python methods because they had already been assigned previously(not sure when or where).

Then it crashes, and according to windows, it is the cvgamecoredll.dll that has some kind of issue at that point.

Let's recap the Thrallia problem (correct me if I am wrong):

Vanilla runs fine in the 1.74 version, with and without the latest HOF mod, and with the special SGOTM 05 mod (since you just played your turnset ;) )

Warlords runs fine in the 2.13 version, with and without the latest HOF mod

If you did a dual install, the older versions also run fine.

BtS runs fine, without the mod. But the BtS HOF mod crashes at game launch.

Now when I was having permissions issues with the new patch (or mod ... seems so long ago) for vanilla, the odd thing was that the old patch (or mods) didn't care about the permissions, but the new ones did. So the new patches (and perhaps BtS as well) goes in and out of the folder system differently than 1.61 or 2.08 did, making something on my computer that did not matter before, suddenly show up as a problem.

So while it may be that something on Thrallia's computer is where the fix will be, finding it (the diagnostic step) may be based on figuring out what the HOF mod does differently from unmodded BtS, and from the previous versions of other HOF mods (which run fine, right?). When the unique aspect of the HOF mod is isolated, then the part of Thrallia's computer that interfaces with that should be the place to look for the adjustment at his end.

I'm no computer expert, but this might be a useful bit of generic diagnostic logic.

Have you been trying this with the same settings each time? Type different map scripts, speeds, etc. Maybe a bug fix went awry.

Hi,

I followed the instructions for installing the 1.74.001 mod and it went fine, as far as I could tell. However, when I try to load the newest Civ IV GOTM (21), I get an error message that I don't understand:

"The save file you have selected is protected to ensure the assets in your mod folder have not been changed."

Then it just quits to desktop. Can someone help me understand/fix this problem? The last GOTM worked just fine after I installed the 1.61.011 mod.

Thanks,
Apolex

Did you apply the version Civ4 1.74 patch? You can download it off the Advanced Options menu.

not yet, I've only tried it with the Beta Gauntlet settings(although i've varied the number of opponents i had)

I'll try mixing up the map types and speeds also then.

how bizarre...now it crashes while loading the mod, saying the runtime has request it to terminate in an unusual way on the step immediately after initEngine, which appears to be initFonts...other mods(Rhye's, FFH, and Next War) also load fine still though...I don't get it, something is very weird about how the HOF mod is trying to interact with my install....I may try uninstalling BtS, if you guys think that might help. It does appear the patch was successful, but maybe I should try the German solution just in case?

Your assets appear identical to mine. The only possiblities I can think of is a corrupted file or something on disk. You might try running a error check on your disk. (c drive properties, tools tab)

I posted this in the latest patches thread. It may be more relevent here.

I just did a clean install of Civ IV, Warloards, and Bts on a new Vista machine. I installed all of the appropriate HoF mods. I manually dropped the special SGOTM 5 mod folder into the "Programs>Civ IV>Mods folder. The GOTM 21 start file loads fine. The SGOTM 5 file however returns the following message, and I quote,
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"
"Runtime Error"
"This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."
"Please contact the applications support team for more info."

Since everyone here is so helpful, I thought I'd try here first. Heeeeeeellllpppp!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Does anyone know what the following message means? "You have selected an unusable voice capture device. Voice capture disabled"

EDIT 2: Bts crashes when I try to load the 3.02.001 HoF mod?

I'm not sure I like Vista at this point.

Did you install the BTS 3.02 Patch?

I tried the 0000000000000000 string and that fixed the 3.02.001 mod loading problem. I still can't load SGOTM 5 saves in Vanilla.

Did you install the BTS 3.02 Patch?
No, I didn't know there was one. I assume now I can get it from Firaxis.
