I only ever get the runtime error when I forget to load a mod for a specific PTBS game. Did you have the mod running when you tried to load the save?
The error is from trying to load a zero length file, which is what happens when you download a warlords game right now.

When I try to load a test save, using the HOF mod (HOF-1.61.008), for the upcoming GOTM, The game loads, but I have no menus. I get this error:

WindowsError: [Errno 2] The system cannot find the file specified
load_module CvAppInterface

That file is there. It's not finding it. I have my Civ4 installed on a second hard drive (E). Is it looking for the file on my C: drive instead of the proper game installation folder, or is something else wrong?

Hi Denniz,
I've finally managed to run map finder during my game. Now, a very simple question? What do I do with it? I cannot find any saved games after it has run for a while...any tip?

That's probably it. You need to edit your registry to make sure it is pointing to the proper install directories for Civ4 Vanilla and Warlords. Check out this post for steps to update your registry. It talks about Warlords but the applies for either.

I assume that it saved some games but you can't find them, correct? (It shows counts of games generated and saved while it is running.)

To view your Map Finder generated games all you need to do is run the Civ4_Map_Finder program. You can view your maps with that to decide which you want to play. You can even launch a save from there. (If you installed the Civ4_Map_Finder VB utiltiy to the default folder then the savegame files should be in "My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Saves" which you can also get to via the load option in Civ4.)

There is also a Rule Builder Menu option that will allow you to create your own rule files for the in-game Map Finder to search against. It comes with a default rules file that is okay. (It should have used that one unless you changed it.) That gives you an example of how to create your own. Deciding what is a good starting position for you is up to you. ;)

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks. That worked. I appreciate it.

Question on maps: Can you try for different victories on the same type map, such as "Great Plains" or "Inland Sea", or does it need to be a totally different type map each time? Just want to be clear on that. I'm thinking of going for all victory types on the "Great Plains" type map in succession, using different generated maps each time.

You're allowed to play as many games as you like for a particular map type. What you're not allowed to do is play the same map (I.e. from the same start file) more than once. Hopefully that made it clearer rather than more confusing :).

One of the saves I've tried to look at is the game on this page...

http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/game_info.php?entryID=3077

I just downloaded the two saves by clicking on them and saving them to a directory on my PC. I thought it might be a problem with the saves so I tried saving them by right-clicking but that resulted in the same run-time error. I tried some of the other 2.00.002 saves but could not get past the runtime error.

Lunacy
Thanks. It looks like the download option for Warlords is broke. Since I am not sure how to fix it, we are going to have to wait for Dianthus to get back. Sorry.
I've just fixed that HOF page, so try downloading a save see if it works for you now.

Just to report that the patched version of Warlords crashes to desktop when loading the HOF-Mod  (I fully expected it to not work or give weird errors - but a CTD which at the same time managed to kill all other open applications was worse than I dreaded :mischief: ).

It's called V2.00.002 for a reason. The V2.00 part means it only works with V2.00 of Warlords. You'll have to wait for us to release V2.08.001 before you can use the HOF mod with the new patch ;).

Oh, and you'll likely get the same problems with any other Warlords mod that changes the dll...

Heh, heh, I thought so, but couldn't resist trying

Excellent! :D Thank you, Dianthus. Perhaps a clarification on the HOF mod page would avoid silly questions like this? :mischief: :goodjob:

You'd think so, wouldn't you? But in my experience the more text you put on a page the less chance it will be read :(.

:\ It's a miracle they even play cIV if they don't bother to read the instructions :P

Good point - I vote that we change each and every page on the WWW to be totally blank! :D

when I try to open MoreCiv4lertsTextInfos.xml of both vanilla and warlords mods using excel or xml notepad 2006 it won't do so citing an invalid character in line 7, position 40
Could you try the attached version and see if that opens for you?

[Edit]Wait a moment, that was still wrong.[/Edit]
[Edit2]OK, try THAT one![/Edit2]
