HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

Does it check any files that are outside the program install path that might not get removed by an uninstall? Also does it look at specific registry entries that I might have missed when I searched the registry?

I don't know if old one did registry entries but it did check just the files that are used in the CRC calculations.

BTW, did I ask you if you were using an account with admin rights? I hear that there is something going on with CRCs when not using admin rights.

I just uninstalled and did another fresh install. But this time I did not install BTS. I had planned on installing the older version of HOF to make sure it worked but when I went into Civ4 to determine its version I found that it is build 1.7.4.0. Likewise Warlords is also 2.13. I had thought that BTS was patching it. So maybe something did get changed with this release. So if you can get me that file checker program maybe we can find out?

Finally, a question I'm technically competent enough to answer!

Yes, there is a BTS Mod out, and we are accepting BTS Submissions. Browse over the titles of the announcements and other sticky threads and you'll find it easily.

It could be a few things:

Your registry entries may not be pointing to the location where you installed. Is your install location different than the default ("C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4")? If so, check there you will probably find it. You can manually move it to the correct location, although, I would fix the registry entries too.

If you are using Vista, there have been a bunch of access problems reported. You can try the steps discussed here.

Is there anything different about your setup that might be a factor?

I run XP and get a runtime error when trying to start my game with the mod. Without it the game works OK so the only change is adding the mod. Any idea why this happens?

Could you try starting a new BTS game without the HOF mod, then try again with the HOF mod?

Tried that, it still crash at the same spot. The sequence after Init Engine I think, the next command, init fonts, flashes for a moment and them the crash.

Does your user have admin permissions? do you load the mod using a shortcut or special ini, or from the in game menus ?

Try to manually change the ini file, and change
GameOptions = EMPTY
to
GameOptions = 00000000000000000000000

It works, at least I get the game start screen now. It was odd since I could run the Vanilla and Warlords HOF's without any issues?

Thanks guys for the prompt response to my problems. I really like the HOF add on so it would have been sad to be without it for BtS.

I thought of that and it was in the right place and I don't use vista.
A funny thing is that when I went online this morning it said I hadn't patched but I had. I repatched it and it still says I need a patch. that might be the problem any ideas?

This is because in BtS it doesnt remember what game options you have turned on when you have a mod loaded (it always uses the default values from the XML)... so in order for you to not having to select your favorite game options every time you started a new game, I added code to read the game options from the ini file instead...

What I didnt expect (and didnt test) was that if you had never started a normal game without HOF mod first, the game options string in the ini file would say EMPTY instead of a string of 0's an 1's .. so in this case this crashes the HOF mod.

Denniz, first time I loaded the BtS mod, it reset me to full screen from windowed again. This time though, after I quit the game, it left me in full-screen mode when I restarted BtS.

Still no idea why it does this, when it is supposed to use the Civ4.ini

They changed something with how it uses the Civ4.ini with BTS. Gyathaar had to put code in to get it to use the ini's saved Game Options with the HOF Mod as they weren't being brought in. I think they somewhat isolated the Mods/Scenarios for some reason.

ok...here's a weird error I just got. Didn't get it when playing without the BtS HOF mod. It just said it had an error and had to close...this was the screenshot of the more info it gave me.

Which isn't very useful. Make sure your Civ4 ini file has it's game options setup. Something like this:

; Game Options
GameOptions = 00000000000000000000000

If it like this:

; Game Options
GameOptions = Empty

You need to start a custom game without the HOF Mod. (There is a bug where the Empty was unexpected so it crashes.)

I have noticed that sometime Civ4 will reset the ini file for no reason so that might be the explanation for your crash and what you reported before.

hm...I'll try. I had played some custom games before installing the HOF mod, and I had a couple of the 'unusual request must terminate' errors before going in and starting a custom game again(which let me get into the actual game) however, I had that error just as I was about to start a custom game...it had already loaded the game.

I'll see if maybe it reset the .ini game settings again just to be sure.

edit: Nope...I made sure it was all zeros(it had been all zeros and 2 1's within the zeros) And it worked again all the way up until I hit launch game, which is when it crashed...same as last time.
