HOF Questions and Answers Thread

After the new HOFMOD will old games using HOFMOD 3.13 still be accepted?

Once a new version of the HOF mod is released, we typically continue accepting the previous version for one more month, so that everyone has plenty of time to finish existing games. After that one month we then stop allowing prior versions. Note, the one month doesn't start until we release the new version.

My game options (BtS) aren't being saved with HOF (lead to a rejected game because I forgot to check LMA and didnt' see the warning). I thought I saw a post or two about that - was there a solution?
I think I have tracked this down. I start Civ4 with a shortcut that points to a HOF enabled civ4.ini file. There are options in this ini file ...

Code:
; Game Options
GameOptions = 00001000000000000010101

... however, the game ignores them and I have to reset them each and every time. Is there a work around for this?

Other items ...

Code:
; Handicap for quick play
QuickHandicap = HANDICAP_MONARCH

; GameSpeed options are GAMESPEED_QUICK/GAMESPEED_NORMAL/GAMESPEED_EPIC/GAMESPEED_MARATHON
GameSpeed = GAMESPEED_MARATHON

... the game does pick up.

I just use a shortcut rather than mess with the ini file. (i.e. mod= mods\HOF-3.13.001 after the exe)

My shortcut on my desktop for Civ IV BTS is:

"C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Gold\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe"

What do I need to change this to to automatically open the HOF mod instead of the expansion?

You may want to make a copy of your BTS shortcut and change the icon before you do this.

1. Right click on your BTS shortcut.

2. Click Properties.

3. Change the target address. Mine reads: "C:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\HOF-3.13.001. You probably just have to add mod=\HOF-3.13.001 to the end of your target address.

Just to know if some Staff's guy have seen this post of mine, and to have any kind of answer (can be done, it's stupid, any)

BTW there's an interesting answer from Ruff Hi to one of my questions.

I saw both posts. I am planning to include those in the new release, although I can't guarantee I can make the Domestic adviser in V&W the same as it is in BTS. The differences between the expansions make somethings irrelevant or not practical/possible.

Is there a mac version of the HOF mod?
Im pretty sure the answer is no, especially since to my knowledge it uses the .NET framework thingamajigger from Microsoft. Denniz (the unpaid but highly revered creator)is a man of many talents however, so if you bug him maybe he can craft up something for the Apple lovers. (Edit: Listen to Ori not me!)

What ori said. ;)

there are Mac versions for Vanilla and Warlords - that are used for the GOTM/WOTM competitions. They are not suitable for HOF play though :sad:
Those were modified by AlanH for the Mac. I don't think they ever made the SDK avail for Civ4 on the Mac.

Only Civ4MapFinder.exe (Map Viewer) and the AssetChecker.exe use the .NET framework. The HOF Mod is C++ and Python. While I appreciate the high praise, I am afraid that porting anything to the Mac is out of my league. :) Oh, I can only claim partial credit for the HOF Mod. Dianthus did all the C++ code and some of the Python.

This HOF has the worst faqs and this forum has the worst instructions.

1. How do I view a game in the hall of fame? I have downloaded a few games from that. I have installed the HOF mod. But when I try to load one of the games I downloaded, it does not load up. It gives me an error message that you cannot load a saved game.

2. How come for any game in the player log, it does not list what year you founded a new city?

Firstly, welcome to the forums. Secondly, you have a unique way of asking for help.

Re 1) There have been quite a few HOF mods. Look at the HOF page (right down the bottom) for the complete list. If you download and install all of these mods, d/l a save and double click on the save, the game will (should) automatically load the correct mod for the save you want to look at.

Re 2) the player log only records the micro details for the last few rounds. You will notice that you don't get complete combat info for early battles, only the last few rounds. If the player log kept everything, the saves would get very very big very very fast.

I spent hours and hours trying and trying, but it did not say anywhere that you need the exact mod version.

Anyway, now I made sure I had each exact mod needed. And still every time I try a game I downloaded, it tells me "load failed." What did I do wrong?

Versions
for civ 1.74
for warlord 2.13
for beyond the sword 3.13 (I read the later one won't work)
I tried and tried more and more games. 22 of the ones I have tried tell me "load failed." I have only gotten two to work: 1835 by Sandman and 1922 by Shadowsong. I have no idea why the vast majority won't work. I have made sure to have all the right mod's installed.
