HOF Questions and Answers Thread

Right, playng GMinor36 at the moment. I just had a bizarre bug.

I razed the 2nd to last Japanese city (capital just got moved there after taking the other capital a few turns before). Then, it said I had captured another city on the other side of the (thin) continent, thing is I had no units near that city apart from a carrack parked outside to keep an eye on the defenders situation and watch out for boats etc.

I was like, "huh?", I razed that city as well, and Japan was no more.

Standing on the city ruins is a worker (I think it said I captured him), that's all. No units of mine at all. I think there are other workers that have suddenly become mine as well.

I have no idea what to do now... should I carry on my game, will it still be accepted or will it be excluded due to a bug? I'm not far off winning I reckon.

EDIT: Here's the autolog for the last turn...

EDIT: Apparently it's a known bug... Bhruic's patch has a fix apparently, something to do with "teleporting workers"?

I don't see this being used as an exploit. I would continue playing. I am not sure which of Bhruic's fixes applied to this bug. Apparantly, it was something we didn't include in the HOF Mod.

OK Thanks I will continue with my game then. I haven't got an autosave for the preceeding turn unfortunately (I thought I had save at end of turn on but that was the warlords HOF, I only got BtS a week and a half ago).

Do you want me to post the save immediately after the bug occuring as one of the intermediate files when I submit (assuming I do actually win of course ;) - Zara has 13 cities and nationalism in 8 turns to draft Oromo's)? Do you want me to drop an email to the hof address explaining what happened, i.e. same procedure if there is a game crash?

Just wanting to be safe rather than sorry.

I think I will post in the Bhruic patch forum and see if anyone can point to the code that fixes the bug, I'll let you know if I have any success with that.

I can't see it being much of an exploit either, if you capture the city with no troops you won't have any defenders in it unless you can get them there straight away. I think a couple ofToku's longbows or whatever were in the city when it got mytersiously captured, they vanished, but Toku was finished anyway, he's broken his capitulation to Zara and was to afraid to vassal to me because he was afraid of my enemies (i.e Zara). If it ever happens to a human player, that would be super annoying though... Also, if it is repeatable under certain conditions I could imagine someone being able to exploit it at some time or another.

Go ahead. It never hurts to know. ;)

I was going to post this on the HOF Mod support thread, but it has been closed.

Back in G-Major 20, the players ran into a bug that was SEVERE. I was a bit dissapointed in that the moderators never seemed to recognize that the bug was real. People would work on this game for over a week then have their game invalidated because of this bug. I have posted a another message at the end of the G-Major 20 thead, so you may want to look at that and review the comments in that thread.

But I have recreated the bug, and it is somewhat repeatable. (I've been able to make is occur with about a 50% chance). I don't know if it is a HOF Mod bug or a BTS bug. I am sure it wasn't a bug in Vanilla or Warlords. I will be happy to do further work on this bug if I get any help.

We didn't miss or ignore the issue. With a rumored patch in the works it doesn't seem worth trying to fix something like this until we see what the patch does.

I posted in the Bhruic patch thread about the "telepoting workers" problem causing me to capture a city without doing anything in GMinor36, but they are all busy debating city governor algorithms it seems.

Denniz maybe you could try PMing Bhruic to see if he can identify where the fix is? I feel if there is a fix to this known bug it should be incorporated into the HOF mod.

Hey im a bit of a noob so this question may appear really obvious to some of you guys but here goes

What is meant by the terms minor and major

Minor gauntlets last 2 weeks, major gauntlets last a month. Because of the extra time, major's are generally more difficult.

I've been considering jumping into a HOF and/or GOTM game, but in looking over everything (including the FAQ), I feel like I may be diving into something that is a bit overwhelming. Can anyone point me to a thread that discusses this from a newbie aspect?

My advice, just download the HOF mod and play all of your games from now on with it (remember to use a custom game and "lock modified assets" turned on so it will be aceptable for HOF use).

If you win, submit. If you see a gauntlet that is in your skill level range, go for it, and read the gauntlet thread for tips as well.

You'll soon be trying leaders you haven't checked off your list and trying new map types, victory conditions, etc.

Yep, you need to load it manually (or set up a shortcut that loads the mod when launching), so if you don't want it you don't need to load it.

If you double click a save file for the HOF mod it loads the mod automatically though.

is there a way to swap the HOF mod in and out so as not to interrupt multi-player games?

When you run the self-installer for the HOF mod it installs it in the mods folder. It does not overwrite your main files. In other words the HOF mod will not affect the main game, so it will have no affect with other games unless you manually load the mod.

Can someone explain how the Scoring victory condition works? How to maximize this and what it takes to make a good game for the HoF? When I saw this I figured that it was just like Milking in C3C but dutchfire says it is not the same..
