HOF Questions and Answers Thread

On the my submissions tab, all my games have a QScore of 0. I know I'm not good, but I'm not that bad!

I noticed that too. It shows up OK on the "status" page of the QM/EQM info.

It was a side-effect of removing the Quattromasters tab. I am not sure it is useful in that context anymore. In any case, V+W vs. All Expansion Division can yield slithly different QScore depending on BTS submissions on the tables. I removed it for now pending a reason to bother changing it. ;)

Don't know if I should start a new thread for this or post it over in the mod section.

I have two requests for the HOF mod.

1. I would like to see the number of map types expanded as random choices when you choose random map type on the custom start screen. For example Big and Small, Medium and Small, Global Highlands... all the maps that are "earthlike" with land and ocean. It is my understanding that if you choose random, your game is still accepted as an HOF entry, under the type of map actually played. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

2. I have a pretty big screen so often play Civ windowed, so I can take breaks and check forums while I play. However, I find if I accidently click on the "X" (close box) in the upper right corner, the game quits with no warning and no save is made, even if save game on exit is checked. Would it be possible to add somekind of warning so that accidental clicks don't kick you from the game? I play on Vista if that makes a difference.

We can take a look. One the first, it might be somewhere we can get at it. For the second, I am not sure about it. Catching the windows close event and canceling it is probably not in the SDK. That part is probably in the exe.

OK a few basic questions..

Is there a way to find or turn on something that shows the turn you are on instead of the date of the turn?

Is there a tile counter? To show how much needed for Domination

Where can I find a list of beakers needed per tech?

Does coast still count towards domination?

Both can be set in your options menu. Main Menu -> Advanced -> Options -> HOF 1/2/3 (don't know for sure which one). You might want to fiddle around with some of these options anyway, they're pretty useful.

Civilopedia
Alternatively in the Science screen (F6), hover over a tech to see the cost.

Does coast still count towards domination?
No, it doesn't, as far as I know.

a few more I thought of.. big thanks to you btw dutchfire.. you have been extremely helpful to a guy trying his damndest to beat your current record :)

Do you get charged unit maintenence for units inside of your borders? (I think I read somewhere that you did not)

At the start of the game does one mil unit in a city give one happy face? Is it only one or 2 like C3C?

Is it pottery that gives you granary?

Always willing to help a fellow civver :)

You can check if you're paying unit maintenance in the F2 screen. There are two types, one for the number of units you have, and one for the number of units outside your borders. So you could be paying 2 gpt for a unit outside your borders. You do get some discount on this depending on difficulty level though.

Only with the Hereditary Rule civic (Pyramids or Monarchy) do units give happy faces. As your city gets bigger, a "we demand military protection " shows up (I think it starts around size 3, but I'm not sure) if you don't have a unit there. So it's generally good to have a unit in your cities. [/quote]
Is it pottery that gives you granary?
Yes, that only makes it a good tech. Add cottages, and it's one of the best techs around.

a mod might want to transfer this to the quick answers thread in the main forum :mischief:

anyway:
there is maintenance for the number of units and maintenance for units outside of you borders. Both are not directly dependent, so you usually can support more troops inside your borders than outside, but at some point even those in your homeland will cost you.
a military unit does not give :) unless you are in hereditary rule. However at some point a city with no unit in it will get 1  because the citizens feel unprotected, that goes away if you put one or 1000 military units in there...
Pottery gives you granaries.

hi hi hi

i recently installed civ4, warlords, warlords 2.08 patch, bts, 3.13 patch, bluemarble, hof mod 3.13.001 - all in that order. now however i get someting like BUTTON_TXT_CUSTOM_GAME_BLAH_BLAH all over the place, from the main screen to the options menu to the actual game itself. what gives?

Hi, Welcome to the HOF. :band:

Did you patch vanilla to 1.74? (You should also patch Warlords to 2.13 if you are going to use it.) You should probably re-apply the 3.13 patch afterwards as it changes Vanilla and Warlords. Warlords and BTS both share Vanilla's Assets.

Another thought would be whether you are using a language other than English, French, Spanish, German, or Italian.

If you install the BTS 3.13 patch via the in-game advanced menu, you might want to install it manually as there have been instances of incomplete patches.

You can download the AssetChecker program to verify your assets file match a normal install.

I can't think of anything else. Hopefully one of those will be the thing. :)

Hi All

I am considering having a go at the current GOTM. Would this be a valid submission for HOF? That's assuming I don't get trounced in it!!!

GOTM doesn't count (it has to be a map you generate yourself).
Gauntlet games are valid HOF submissions though.

I played a HOF game with 3.13.001 and noticed that the unit promote blue outline was off by a pixel. The changed the way they do the unit layout in BtS from working with a x by y design to working with y number of rows that are x long. They also changed the offset from 3 to 2. Further, they changed it so that you can put down a solid blue graphic and then lay a unit on top of that instead of having to lay down 4 border graphics around the unit graphic. If you lifted the code for the promote graphic from Warlords then that would account for the 'off by 1 pixel' issue.

The upshot of this was that I found selecting units a little bit harder - you have to click more accurately when you have the unit promote graphic turned on.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I've updated this little part of the code so that it works with BtS now ... see the BUG mod maininterface.py file for the code.

In which file can I set the domination limit warning to my own liking? (I believe it's possible to set it to 100%, isn't it?)

edit: nevermind, the .ini file.
