As a journalist in Texas, I have more than a passing familiarity with the entire story.
Once again, Americans can thank the police departments in Texas for bringing to the forefront idiotic issues such as this. Remember, a few years ago, they busted some Commie protestor at the Republican Convention in Dallas for burning an American flag -- not for ripping it off a building (vandalism and theft) -- but for desecrating the American flag.
This issue is similar. Had that been a man and a woman engaging in exactly the same form of sex (I believe it was anal sex, but I really didn't check into it), there would have been no arrest, no publicity and no Supreme Court test.
As an American, I find it highly offensive that the government wants to get into the most intimate of human activities and set down rules. These were two adults, in a private bedroom. How in God's good name did these two Mo's disturb anyone?
Is it morally offensive to some people, perhaps even a majority of people? Yeah, but so what. Morality cannot be legislated. Behavior in many instances can -- no murder, burglary, rape, child molestation, etc. -- but not morality.
And no one is suggesting that sex between a full-fledged adult and a child is anything but criminal. A child is incapable of making adult decisions, lacking the experience and knowledge one gains over the years, so it has to be illegal, regardless of the genders involved.
I also wonder: if it had been two nice-looking women go at each other in that bedroom, would the cops have busted them?
Here's a similar question -- does the sun rise in the west?
