First up! First Played! I am not sure but this may be tougher than RBP10 :eek:. Lets see how things play out. Persia needs to be dealt with before immortals.

2950 1

2750 5 Settler -> Warrior

2590 9 Found York on the hill next to the cow North of London (coast) Warrior produced -> Barracks.

2550 10 Persia knows Wheel and Warrior Code, won't deal for either. Persians start the Colossus.

2470 12 Scout gets turned around in Persian territory by a camped Spear at a bottleneck

2310 16 Barracks done, start Settler. Barb Spearman coming from the north

2150 20 Persian settler approaching from the South Settler due in 2. Please change Granary build in York if you wish. Mathematics due in 10. Persia is willing to sell tech now. Scout is annoying the Persian settler and denying them their desired site on the hill.

The Game 2150BC

Sorry about any weedy moves. I'm waaaaay out of practice with this type of tough start! The barracks was for maybe doing archer rush against persia, but it may already be too late for that.

Hot8

2150BC (0): Oh my it is a nice start isn't it. Drop research to 10 and do nothing else.

2110 BC (1): The Persian's settle a new city for us :devil2:

2070 BC (2): London builds a settler starts a warrior. Settler goes to claim the last bit of green to the West. warrior in the north steps out to protect our worker from the evil spears.

2030 BC (3): Kill a spear in the North settler is in position. A bit tight but at least its green.

1990 BC (4): London completed a warrior starts a settler. Found Nottingham and start a warrior.

1950 BC (5): Not much. warrior covers the worker.

1910 BC (6): kill a barb spear but lose my vet warrior in the process. Glad I backed off the idea for dinobarbs :D.

1870 BC (7): Not much

1830 BC (8): Math is due in 2 keeping fingers crossed.

1790 BC (9): Nottingham builds a warrior starts a worker.

1750 BC (10): Math comes in and start on Mysticism. It can be changed and maybe it should be but I don't think we have a shot at writing at this point and myst seemed as good a choice as any. London builds a settler starts a warrior. Math and 60 gold gets us the Wheel and Warrior Code. We are horse Free. BTW changed to the little known Currency gambit :lol: Persia already has Myst and most likely is working on Writing or HBR so why not currency. It can be changed ofcorse.

Got it

Have you ever noticed that SGs are like buses? You wait ages for one then three come along at once :D

Not a problem Hotrod. I was up in 2 other games yesterday so I was glad of the break.

I thought he decided to search through the starts to find one with enought desert showing to have 8 deserts squares to match the SG name.

Pre-flight checks... OK :thumbsup:

It makes my mouth dry, looking at all that desert. I'd better go and make a cup of coffee before I start :)

Hmmm, Persia has IW and look at all those hills and mountains. I'd be very surprised if they don't have an Iron source in that lot :(

IBT

Notes
I think it very likely that Persia has Iron. They wouldn't be mining the hill NW of Arbela otherwise. So we need to be thinking about defense.
The upside is if NW Arbela is their only source of Iron then we could stage a denial raid, pillage and hold the hill.
The Northern Warrior should check that the Northeast is Coast. We'd look pretty silly if we found out later that the land up there hooks back round to the supposed island 3NE of York :)

The save is > here <

Ted

I've got it. I may not get to play it until late on Sunday. Company coming this weekend and I'll lose my office/gaming center/guest bedroom.

I was able to squeeze in a turn. :)

I do not remember anyone saying X-man has met the Ottomans. He wants 3GPT + 155g for the contact. Mysticism is the only tech we can purchase for 4GPT + 155g. Heres hoping Osman does not wait too long to buy our contact.

1475BC-1 Worker extending road to Hastings and warrior scouting.

1450BC-2 London settler-->settler York barrack-->spear...growth stunted at 3 until harbor built. Souting warrior finds barb camp but does look like we can put a city NE of York across the bay. Settelr is heading NW of Hastings to get a costal square and pull in the game.

1425BC-3 Hastings worker-->barrack Defeat Barb spear 2-2 but horseman is next.

1400BC-4 Perians settler pair just outside our border. :eek: X-man must be out of room.

1375BC-5 Settler pair move into our territory and politely ask them to leave. Lost 6g by not dropping tax 3 turns ago. :crazyeye: We now have enough in the bank to buy contact straight up for 187g. I take it dropping our account to 4 to keep X-man from demanding any of it. Osman has IW and Myst but not Math. I take IW and 9g for Math. Our Iron is on the hill 3 squares north of Hasting. X-man has iron on the hill he was mining and on the mountain between Pasargadae and Persepolis.

1350BC-6 York spear-->archer Healed warrior defeats barb horsman 2-0 for 25g but does not promote. Persians settler keeps moving towards London. The spear from York will head south to annoy him.

IBT Our palace starts with a new entrance. Persians start 2nd wonder, the Pyramids, because they just completed The Colossus.

1325BC-7 move people

1300BC-8 London settler-->archer...down to size one. Loss of population requires science to go up to 20%. First settler is moving to claim a tundra square by moving to coast SW of game. Second settler will head to turndra lake NE of iron. The iron seems to be where the Persians are headed and we sould be able to blockade them.

1275BC-9 Cantebury founded and starts a warrior.

1250BC-10 York archer-->settler...only city big enough right now. The blockade is forcing the Persian settler westward to the open area between Hastings and Nottingham. That would be a free fishing village from him if he gives up on getting to the iron. :D X-man also connected up his second iron. No new techs and Myst will cost us 1GPT+74g from Osmon. I forgot to mine the cow but the worker mining by Hastings will be done next turn.

THE GAME

Looking good! We are very dry and really need to get some boats out soonish. With the Ottomans around at least now we can have a possiblity of a 2fr.

And you know what that means ... :rolleyes:

You must see the positive aspects: London doesn't need an aqueduct, onl 4 acceptable land tiles. :lol:
And who cares that you are dry ? You have WINES, should taste much better ;)

1250 BC - 0
Nottingham -> temple, to work the forest tiles on expansion
Hasting -> spear, Persia will have to be dealt with soon.
York -> worker, York has a granary and we need 2 more workers.

tough start, lets see if this works.

1225 BC - 1
Continue the block on Persia settler.

1200 BC - 2
York worker -> spear
Meet the Jute, some pillaging coming my way.

I > spy an Immortal

1175 BC - 3
Coventry settled beside the glacial lake. Will get the salmon and last grassland. -> worker
Expansion is needed

I > Persia demand 23g, I cave. Warrioe defends against Jute spear.

1150 BC - 4
I whip the temple in Nottingham

1125 BC - 5
Buy writing from Persia staight up for 6gpt + 85g.
Nottingham -> cat

1100 - 6
London speart -> settler

1075 - 7

1050 - 8
Canterbury warrior -> archer
Hastings swaped to a temple

1025 BC - 9
Nottingham expands.

1000 BC - 10
The Persian spear/settler pair are no further advanced.
Suggest whipping Hasting when the cost is 1.

The Game

I see it. I can't play for another 18 hours or so. Family commitments beckon. Sorry!

975 BC Barb horse kills our Warrior in the North. Not an auspicious beginning.

950 BC London Settler->Warrior (Eventual mass sword upgrade?) York Spear->Spear

925 BC Nottingham Cat->Cat

900 BC London Warrior->Warrior. Still blocking Persian Settler.

875 BC nothing

850 BC Whip Temple in Hastings. Kill Barb horse with Warrior.

825 BC London Warrior->Warrior York Spear->Spear Hastings Temple->Cat. Persia has boats (they settled an island.) They know the Aztecs, Romans, and Greeks, and are up Myst, CoL, Mapmaking, and Horse Riding. Ottos don't know any of those. Time for some trading. Doh! Persia is insulted with every offer I give them, even Hotrod's first born son! I can't even trade our map away. I hope someone buys a comm with us, but most likely Ottos will get to know everyone also.

800 BC Egypt builds the Pyramids. Nottingham Cat->Cat. No change on the Diplo front.

775 BC London Warrior->Warrior Persians start Lighthouse. York Spear->Spear

750 BC We learn Currency. Min set on Construction. Carthage completes Great Library. (Whee! Isn't this fun?) Pop a hut and get Horseback Riding. Start roading Iron (Please stop them if you don't want it hooked up yet!) We have a monopoly on Currency! [dance] [party]
Currency and TM to Persia for Contact with Greeks and Romans.
Currency and Contact with Ottos to Rome for Contact with Aztecs, Mapmapking and 51 gold.
Currency and Contact with Ottos and 48 gold to Greece for Code of Laws and World Map.
Currency and Contact with Ottos to Aztecs for Mysticism, WM, and 96 gold.
Currency, Mapmaking, and CoL to Ottos for Polytheism and 99 gold.
Trade WM around for 100's more gold. We are at tech parity, got lots of gold, and maybe if we buy Ottos into an alliance against Persia, we could really squeeze them out.

The Game (750BC)

Edit: Strategy talk.
I think we are at a crucial point here. I may have overbuilt our military (we are 4+ units over). Now that we know most of the rest of the world, we "could" be peaceful traders and live on the fringe of society (bottomfeeder) for the whole game and sneak a victory out in the end.
Or we could attack Persia and try to get some *decent* land and maybe be more of a contender for the rest of the game, at the risk of bad luck in an early war putting us hoplessly behind.
I did not reset our science goal or start any galley builds after all that trading...both probably need to be looked at. If we can discover (I assume) the big continent in the middle that holds Carthage and another Civ, we'll really be in a decent position going into the middle ages.
