How can I get a count of all of my towns?

Hey guys,

I have a fairly straightforward question: is there a screen that will show me how many towns, villages, hamlets, and cottages are in my empire? It would be quite helpful when switching to or from FS, for example. I am running BTS 3.19, along with BUG Mod 4.4. I could have sworn I saw it somewhere while playing, but can't seem to find a post that discusses it.

Thank you,

Dryas.

It is one of the many options in BUG Mod. Go to the BUG mod options screen. It is one of the options for the scoreboard in the right lower corner of the main screen. Once it is turned on, the last column of the scoreboard will display a number that is how many cities each civ has.

OP's not asking about cities. Op's asking about towns. I too would like to know the answer to this question. I'd make for an easy way to calculate whether switching to Free Speech(and to a lesser extent, Universal Suffrage) is worth it or not.

Press the F9 key on your keyboard in order to load up the Info Screen.

Click on the STATISTICS tab at the bottom of the page.

I have a Vanilla game open right now, which only shows Units and Buildings, but I recall seeing an Improvements column in Beyond the Sword. Of course, you might or might not need one of the BUG or BUFFY Mods (these days, I only play Beyond the Sword with one of these two Mods in use), but that would be the place to look. If you don't see the Improvements Statistics in the base game, then you'll want to get one of those two Mods. If you do need one of those Mods, there is a method to install the BUG Mod so that it will work with your existing saved game (EDIT: Okay, you are already using the BUG Mod... so, you should almost certainly have those stats available in your game).

Oops. My misread of the question.

Don't forget that the Statistics page will count all of your improvements, including those in your capital.

If the majority of your Towns (and Villages that are soon to be Towns) are in your capital, it may still be worth sticking it out in Bureaucracy if you don't need Free Speech's Cultural boost.

Of course, it's also worth considering whether or not you built Oxford or Wallstreet in your capital.

Then, it is also worth looking at the difference of the Civic Maintence cost on the F3 screen (hover your mouse over Free Speech then hover your mouse over Bureaucracy--or whatever your current Legal Civic selection is--and compare the differences in "Upkeep" in terms of Gold per Turn at the bottom of the page).

Put all of these things together and you'll have a pretty clear picture (maybe clear as mud) as to whether the switch will be beneficial.

Don't forget to factor in any potential turn or turns Anarchy and see if the switch can be done during a Golden Age or in combination with other Civic Switches (unless you are a Spritual Civ or have The Christo Redentor Wonder and thus don't have to deal with turns of Anarchy).

Not sure about one thing:

Does Statistics count all towns (or any other improve) or just the ones the player built?

The BUG mod is the best. It will change your (Civ 4) life.

It really does change how you play the game. It's hard to imagine if you haven't used it, but for me it essentially allowed me to move up a difficulty level without changing how I play the game.

If this doesn't help anyone directly, at least I have directed people to the BUG mod. Which will help people directly.

I cannot recommend it enough.
