How can you be a father and still play video games?

But if you are waiting for AI Civ moves you can't really 'pause' the game and get on the internet I guess (without another computer/device.)
You kinda could with civ3 though b/c it wouldn't minimize. I really grew to like that feature when those 24 civ huge maps reached the industrial age. I'd be reading CFC for 40 minutes waiting for the next turn.

My son's wanted me to get into minecraft, but never did. They indulge me every once in a while with online civ5, but they play a mutch wider variety of online games with fellow students from school, and whoever joins their online group.

I have no idea how many hours I have logged on Civ IV as it was installed before the days of Steam and hour logging, but it is probably a lot as I have been playing it for almost a decade. I don't think I can say that about any other game. Is there a way to tell outside of the number steam spits out?

My "magic number" for full saturation for other non-civ games (skyrim and the like) is around 250 hours. And that magic number is for a select few number of pre-kid games. Now I am lucky if I hit 100 over the course of a year.

This thread reminds me so much of Remy Mokhtar's 'No Pink Ponies' webcomic…

You would stoop to posting from a cellphone? :eek2:

I recently became the father of a beautiful daughter. Now I am on paternity leave and take care of her while my wife is continuing to study medicine at the university.
However, I refuse to become an "adult" and still play a lot of video games. Since I have to carry my daughter in my arms a lot of the time, I resort to playing games that require only one hand for mouse control and no keyboard and games that can be paused at any time. Lately that have been Hearthstone (from Blizzard, no pause), Craft the World (to be found on steam) and Civ V BNW. Also some XCOM: Enemy Within with the Long War mod, but it is not ideal (plays more smoothly with keyboard shortcuts).

How much time do you spend playing and how do you manage the responsibility for your children? What game do you play? I am eager to hear new ideas for one-hand-only pause-at-any-time games. How do you get in touch with other parents that are not yet "adults"?

I play the same games I always did, I just play them a lot less. My daughter is three and I only play video games when she is out with my wife doing something, napping, or has gone to bed for the night. Basically, I game when I don't have to worry about taking care of her. She has expressed an interest in my games though so sometimes we play together. This usually involves her pretending to push buttons on a disconnected controller, but she has a blast with it. We also play Pocket Tanks on my laptop.

So basically, you just have to adjust your gaming habits to your new lifestyle.

Never tried to buy internet in a Republican state! Probably depends on which one/where in the state.
