How Crowded Can a Map Be? The Sequel

I'm back!

OK, we are in 250. I just took Cuzco. Now I send my army SW, next to Berlin and what must be Arabia. It is, actually, and it will be my next objective: Mecca must fall. To giv you an idea, the principal attackers I see are:
1- Arab archers
2- Numidian merc
3- Egyptian archers
4- Roman archers
5- Javelin throwers
As I only have a vague idea of where the Chichén Itza and Carthage are, and as my army is near the #1 opponent, let's take him down! I killed 2 spears on the first turn of attack with immortals. The plan is to attack with every healthy immortal every turn. I also have elite archers, but they aren't much use, since Mecca is city size. In 130, I saw babylonian MDIs. That is bad. At least I have them too, but cheaper. Actually, it lost to a spear in Cuzco, and my spear didn,t eve get hurt. Loser!

Since I was killing 2 spears oer turn, the siege of Mecca was the fastest ever (in this game), and in 70 bc:

mecca.JPG

Accross the lake is Chichén Itza. By conquering Mecca, I knew about more squares, and I discovered the Hittites. I got code of laws from them. Little stats:

Military:
8 immortals (2 elites, 6 vets)
8 spears (1 in Mecca, 2 in Cuzco, 2 in Tenochtitlan, 1 in Ur, 1 in Delhi, 1 moving to protect the stack)
2 elite archers
12 cats (1 in Persepolis, 11 in the stack)
1 warrior (Persepolis)
tons of slaves

Production (only important cities):
Persepolis: immortals every 2 turns (17 shields)
Tenochtitlan: immortals every 4 turns (10 shields - 1 wasted)
Delhi: immortals (10 shields - 3 wasted)

Population: 20% (10,9 millions) #1 in the world
Territory: 9% (4500 square miles) #3 in the world

You may understand I'm going for domination. Taking every civ out would be a heck of a lot trouble, especially because two of them have more territory than me (and I don,t know them, since my #1 rival is at 7%)

My next objective is Berlin. The German capital is not an important city, but my cats are already there, so... I start to attack in 30 BC (I need to say it because soon, it'll be AD. more important than with 4000 bc). There were a lot of spears there. Normal, since they haven't sent a single archer on me, so what could they have built but spears?

My GA ended in 30 AD. my production got back to ten in Persepolis. In 50 AD, I finally got a damaged defender after bombardment in Berlin. [party] (see, I didn't used the woohoo smiley!). In 70, it was red-lined. Berlin will soon be mine...

You expect it, in 90:

To be continued...

I sent my army next to Thebes, in my territory. In 110, I killed 6-7 spears, and I only lost 1 immortal, while 5 didn't even lost 1 hit point  In 130, I dicovered currency, which started the Middle Ages. I got Engineering as a free tech. Good, I build some trebs. I started researching monarchy. I also got to the last defender in Thebes, but missed one unit to finish the job. As my army was on on the western front, the eastern civs (Babylon and France mainly) were sending at me bunches of units. Altough nearly useless, those were pretty annoying, and the small CA army I had there (1 elite immortal and 3 cats) was not enough to kill everybody.

As you may have predicted it:

thebes.JPG

You see the irrigated wheat FP? That will make Thebes a highly populated city! And it is my first access to the sea! As Thebes won't have much to care about food, I'll probably mine some of the desert tiles, providing Thebes more production, and also work some sea tiles, since I haven't much commerce insid. With my new conquests, I now am the #2 biggest civ! [party]

I sent my army S, to fight the Ottomans. You see their orange border on the Berlin screenshot. They are next to the Hittites, the #2 objective. Then, it'll be France, the Mayans and finally Babylon. I decided to send more units in CA, as i was starting to see more and more. Also, I started to see Portuguese swords attacking Ur, so I started a wall (it is free), as I already have in Cuzco and Mecca.

The attack on was should be Istanbul (can't see the name, maybe they lost Istanbul but had a second city, I don't know) seemed pretty easy, as, on the first turn, I was able to get to an injured spear.

Now, some stats for your eyes only:

Army:
11 immortals: 7 in stack or resting (4 vet, 3 elite), 3 for western CA (1 vet, 2 elite), 1 for northern CA (vet)
8 spears: 1 in Berlin (vet), 2 in Mecca (1 elite, 1 vet), 2 in Ur (2 vet), 1 in Delhi (reg), 1 in Tenochtitlan (vet), 1 in Cuzco (elite)
12 cats: 9 in stack, 3 in western CA
1 archer: in stack (elite)
1 warrior: in Persepolis (vet)

Military production:
Persepolis: Immortal in 3 turns
Tenochtitlan: Immortal in 6 turns
Delhi: Immortal 8 turns

Infrastructure:

Barracks: Persepolis, Delhi, Tenochtitlan, Ur, Cuzco (building), Berlin (building), Mecca (building)
Walls: Cuzco, Mecca, Ur (building)
Harbor: Thebes (building)
Temple: Persepolis

Domination stats:
Territory: 12% (5600 square miles) #2
Population: 21% (11 million) #1

Turn: 138 / 540

So back to the game! I encountered the Byzantines in 230, and, in 250, I took Istanbul.

istanbul.JPG

With Istanbul, I now had no support to pay for units! :woohoo: (oops!)

Then, the next target was Hattusas. In 280, the #1 defener became 2-hp at the end of the turn, after I had killed a good number. And, as expected, in 290:

hattusas.JPG

The next target is Paris. The first attacks started in 310. I killed a few spears. In 320, I discovered Monarchy and sarted a revolution (5 turns :twitch: )

To be continued...

The Persian Revolution

Objective: not lose to much in 5 turns

Turn 1:
Before the beginning of the revolution, I had built a settler, and it moves in position
I kill 2 spears in Paris.
I CA 2 Byzantine longbows and 1 spear(why, stupid me, did I search for trouble?)

Inter-turn:
1 immortal survived to a Byzantine horse
1 longbow and 1 spear are unloaded next to Persepolis

Turn 2:

The settler founds Pasagardae
I killed the Byzantine attackers, but lost my warrior in Persepolis
I killed 3 spears in Paris

Inter-turn:

A babylonian longbow attacked Cuzco and lost [party]

Turn 3:

I lost 1 immortal attacking Paris

Inter-turn:

1 babylonian longbow entered my territory near Cuzco
1 Byzantine spear entered my territory near Ur

Turn 4:

I killed the longbow

Inter-turn:

nothing important

Turn 5:

Killed 3 spears in Paris
Killed the Byzantine spear

Inter-turn:

A byzantine longbow, a roman and a cartaghenian archer entered my territory

Beginning of Monarchy! Yes! On the same turn, another great thing happens: I got to a damaged #1 defender in Paris! I killed 3 spears that turn. I also killed the longbow. In 830, I killed even more spears and:

paris.JPG

Next: Chichén Itza, tomorrow morning. Then, it'll be the babs, and then Byzance.

Good night!

Wow. You're going pretty darn fast. Can we see a minimap, or do you just want to wipe out everyone and then show then end stuff?

I won't show you a minimap... I prefer a full map!

map.JPG

I also don't know who is on the other side of the sea. Sorry, I always forget about mini-maps  (btw, I'm now #1 in territory!)

Back to the game! In 390, the babs had a longbow on the iron mountain, and I wanted my army there. I attacked it with a elite immortal, and...

darius.JPG

:woohoo: A leader! It'll be faster now! I waited this to happen for long, now. And now, I know where Babylon is! So I decided the objective would be Babylon. Anyway, the last Mayan "attack" was like in 200.

But during the inter-turn, something I didn't expect happenned: two Portuguese swords, which I thought were going to attack Paris, actually attacked Chichén Itza  That means they are at war, and that means they will not always attack me. Because of that, I decided to attack Chichén Itza first, since they would have less spears, being attacked by Portugal.

In 400 AD, I encounterd Greece. The problem: they have Knights Templar. Bad. Real bad. I decided to recall the attack on Babylon/Chichén Itza to get rid of Greece. I know, it'll be tough, but I have to! Anyway, they have tons of crusaders rushing to my lands.

In 440, I got my first treb (centuries after I can use them, I know!). I loaded 3 vet immortals in the army, and with that, I killed my opponent's crusaders. For now, the defense of my borders is a difficult task, but soon, in 2 turns, I'll discover Feudalism, and I'll build pikes!

But this period is certainly not the best ever. Even if I'm the biggest country in the world, I'm backward and I can'tg defend myself properly, so I can,t go attack, and the I now have to pay for units (7 gpt and growing). At least, I have a shot at bombarding oncoming units, since I destroyed all the roads that permitted an instant attack.

I encountered the Celts in 490, and traded for Monotheism, then declared war. The Celts seemed had captured Rotterdam, so I expected there would be less units there.

To be continued...

In 500, I got another little surprise:

cyrus.JPG

Good! Another army! I'll use it for CA in the south.

Nothing important until 570. This year, I sent a pike and a few cats on the mountain next to Athens (seen on the map, they are kind of orange, near the babs). In 580, they destroyed a few roads around Athens. During the 580 inter-turn, I got:

achaemenes.JPG

[party] I got a leader in the Northern area! That too will accelerate my offensive

Athens will probably be the toughest of all battles:
1- They have hoplites
2- At least 2 of them are elite
3- Athens itself is 12 size
4- Athens gets renforcements from Sparta and Trondheim
5- Athens also gets crusaders from the Knights Templar
With this known, I attacked the an Elite Hoplite with my army. There were 2 (the first one was bombarded). I killed it.

Athens, altough every defender would be hardly killed, didn't seem to have a lot of defenders.

In 620, Athens finished Leo's, right under my army. Another Great Wonder to take! The attack was slow.

To be continued...

He already said no to me. However, he really doesn't need one with the big map he posted...

If you really want a mini-map, I can send one tomorrow, but first I want someone to answer my question: How can I get rid of the square over it?
I sent this post with the visual ketboard!

This is such an awesome idea, if there's some way we can dowload your mod, I would love to try it out, I'm not too good at using the editor.

Good luck!

It's not hard, just reset the tiny map to have 31 civs then play around with the spacing between civs. I've done it before.

I'll send it if you want, now I'm at school, so I can't.

Btw, now, I can just protect my lead and win with score. The only reason I'm expanding now is because tof the military cost ($$$) I don't want to fight tanks with pikes. At least if I had spears...

OK, let's get busy!

In 680, as the attack on Athens seemed to give nothing, and since my army costs were higher than ever, I decided to take Moscow to get rid of those silly unit costs (now up to 20 gpt).

In 710, I got the first injured defender in Moscow, and, on the same turn:

moscow.JPG

Unit cost was now at 21 gpt. I decided to attack Athens, because it was the highest cultural city. You want to know how much? Well, you suspect I'm dominant on the score and power graphs, right? Well, Greece is as good on the culture one. Not good. Even worst: I've got 2 city in flip risk range. I knew once Athens would fall, all of Greece would be meet for my army.

The armies were making my conquest easier, as I said. After all my attacks, in 730, the #1 defender was an injured elite hoplite. Because of that, I can estimate their army in Athens to ~7-10 (didn't count, stupid me!). It was my first turn of attack. But it wasn't this much surprising: the Greeks have more cities to defend (Athens, Sparta and Trondheim (seen by trade screen) than all my other opponents, so they had to send units to all those cities.

In 740, after bombarding, I was finally able to determine approximatley how many hoplites were in Athens: 1 elite (killed), 8 vet (minus 2 killed), 1 rg (killed) and 1 crusader every 5 turn (killed).

In 750, I pillaged the iron of Portugal. My armies, most of them redlined, went back to moscow for a rest. Now, I was able to get injured hoplites every turn. Would you like a few stats?

Military:

Immortals: 21 (9 in armies, 4 CA South, 2 attacking Athens, 2 CA East, 2 CA North East, 2 CA South West)
Spears: 4 (Cuzco, Hattusas, Tenochtitlan, Persepolis)
Pikes: 8 (1 in Istanbul, 1 in Moscow, 1 in Paris, 2 defending the mountain, 1 in Ur, 1 in Cuzco, 1 in Pasargardae)
Cats: 12 (8 on stack, 2 in Cuzco, 1 in Paris-Hattusas axis, 1 in Ur)
Trebs: 9 (3 in stack, 3 in Paris-Hattusas axis, 1 in Moscow, 1 in Tenochtitlan, 1 in Ur)
Armies: 3

Domination: 19% (Greece has 11%)
33% (Greece has 15%)

And, in 780: (sorry, forgot the pic  )

athens.JPG

[party] :woohoo: [party]
Great! I now control the most wonder full city ( ). On the same turn, I encountered the zulus, and I traded literature and 1 gold for monotheism, then declared war. The next objective was now Sparta (or Trondheim). The greeks have a lot of culture, and Athens must not flip back to them.

As I got the GL, I got, during the inter-turn, a few techs, including gunpowder, theology and education. But... I had NO salpeter. That's right: I have a huge desert, but nothing interresting in it. Hope I have oil!
In 800, I killed 2 hoplite in Sparta (SE from Babylon). In 810, the resistance in Athens ended, and I killed a few hoplites, then:

sparta1.JPG

:woohoo: Now my objective was Baylon. Why?

reasons.JPG

I'll probably sttle near the yellow circle, but I'll also take Babylon (then Chichén Itza) for security.

I'll say somtething that'll surprise you: after 2 attacks with one of my armies, the #1 defender was a LONGBOW!!! I now knew there were at least 4 units in babylon: 2+ longbows and 2 spears.

Want to see the mini map? Here it is! My detailed minimap, with battle zones!

minimap2.JPG

Here, you see where I fight my ennemies. You may ask: why is there a battle zone near Thebes and berlin, in the middle of nowhere? Simply because it is their landing zone. In 830, as you expect it:

babylon.JPG

With Babylon in my hands, I had took down what was, at this point, the 3rd most annoying nation, behind Byzance and the Celts, and before also behind Greece, but not since they lost Athens. The old order was:
1- Greece (nearly dead)
2- Byzance
3- Celts
4- Babylon (dead)
5- Netherlands (inactive)

The new one is:

1- Byzance
2- Celts
3- Zululand
4- Portugal
5- Carthage

Yes. 3 of the old top 5 most dangerous/annoying nations are now no danger. But the importance uf taking Babylon wasn't because they were directly dangerous: it is because they had a ROP with Byzance.

I decided then to attack Trondheim. At the same time, I sent my northern CA army for Copàn.

In 850:

copàn.JPG

Good. Copàn is down, and that cuts Portugal from Rome. But less good is that Athens FLIPPED!!! And what is even weirder is that I took Trondheim just after! (sorry, no pic) I took back Athens in 870 (no pic too) and destroyed the fledging Greeks!
