In order to bring new members into the fold, I would like to know what the most effective way of bringing members into the Demogame is. This poll is my method of finding out.
EDIT: Now I remember, I came here when it was posted in the Main page that DG2 finished. I didn't register because I didn't know what to do, but came back and got informed like one month ago..
I saw them several times, but I didn't really understand what it was all about. I was curious and determined enough to check it out 2 or 3 times.
I attribute Zorven for my involvement with the DG. He was very responsive to my posts, pointed me in the right directions and was very encouraging.
I think it would be helpful if the adverts point to the demogame web page. The most prominant part of the web page should be *what the DemoGame is* rather than "this is our constitution" or "this is how we do things" neither of which really say much about what is in it for the prospective player.
I can't remember. I guess it was through the forum, just checking some links when I first came across CFC.
I was a DG2 lurker (not signed up) when the Indians captured one of the cities. What appealed to me were the stories surrounding the game; Culture Leader, President and Domestic Leader hiding in the theater of the captured city or something like that.
I kept following the game and when it finished I signed up for DG3.
I came through a front page ad. I ended up being mentored by a longsince gone ledgend, AlmightyJosh. I accidently did one of the 1st RPG stories with the Grand Banquet of Asphinxia.
and @RM: The Bluff's Casino hostage plot. Me, CG, CT and 40 stuck in the Golden Bluff casino while GM fought off hordes of Indian Elephants to free Huntington. Good times... Good times...
/me just remembered he has to start the DG4 RPG Thread.
DG1! clicked on the forum, looked through GF's and DoF's "First post" Competition. then looked at the "real" threads explaining it and discussing the start up. Asked a few newbie'ish questions, then began an unexpected career in the Military... HOO RAAA!
I selected other, I mainly floated around the DG after clicking on the forum, the sig links, and the front page of Civfanatics.com. IT was not untill late in DG1 that I decided to sign up.
I was lurking around the Civ 3 forums when DoF presented the idea to everyone. I was actually in on the initial discussions for DG1. Seems like a long time ago...
Noldy, you rock! You are definitely making my job much easier......
Back to topic, I want to say it was a Main Page ad that got my attention first but I may have clicked on it the first time during a scan of the Forums.
I voted Main Page ad though, and plan to use that method a great deal during the next two months.
@T-Man90 - Great point about linking the main Page ads to our new webpage. Since the DG4 forums will be fully linked through a new website, it should make navigation much easier for new members(and existing ones too, for that matter).
