How did you get civ3??

I bought Civ3 for my sons as a Christmas present.

They just gave me PTW and C3C for my birthday.

They're 11 and 13. I just turned 40.

Got 'em all since the very first. This times on a Atari comp I started with CIV1. Since this days I am addicted, more or less. But nowadays I play just for fun with breakes. But it is one of the most thrilling games I've ever faced. Besides I liked Geoff Crommonds GP series also, as well as XCOM. Bashing aliens was also great fun but after finishing once it lost the fun quite much.
And of course UT. Best egoshooter ever. Even was in a clan several years. But with age time has to be spend on more serious tasks and gaming is falling back in priority. So the only game really going with me for ages is CIV and I am sure CIV4 will be also mine asap.

I wanted a game that was as much like Castles: Siege and Conquest as possible. Civ 3 looked like the one.

My friend got me playing civ 2 when ever I was at his house during the mid 90's (can't remember exactly). I then found a copy of civ 1 which I mucked around with for a bit. Then I bought civ 2 myself and had many years of fun with that one, including multiplayer (although it was very slow and buggy) with my friend. When civ 3 came out I immediately bought it the first chance I got. I just recently purchased ptw and am wondering if it is worth getting conquests as well?

Sid Meier and Jesse Smith gave it to me. :mischief:

Really. Actually, I have 3 copies. One that I bought (so did most others in the beta who couldn't wait 3 months...), one from the beta, and one from testing at Firaxis. (and yes, the latter was signed by the above two)

MrRats: Did you intend some philospohical guestion as to why we started playing civ?

Most people would say the found out about civ by word-of-mouth. I myself was loaned a copy of civ2.

As to why I play: I play therefore I am civilized. :p

I played the original Civilization at a friend's house on his mac when I was only 9. I was facisinated by the movements of the units and the power I held as King of my little Roman tribe. As I was at that time deep in love of studying the Roman Empire, this was the perfect chance for me to live history. I went to the computer store, and lo and behold there sitting on a counter in the middle of the store was Civilization 2. I snatched it and paid my allowance money. When I got home, I was immediately hooked. I enjoyed destroying those pesky Zulus, and building a huge world empire on Warlord level. After destroyed the nations I didn't like of course, I loved naming my cities after myself and my pets, thus Pug City and the Iglorian Empire were born. I played until age 11, when I bought Civilization 3. O glorious 3 demenional graphics! I bought PTW immediately when it came out. And now I'm 12, and I still play this game of games.

That's my story. ;)

Hmmm... MrRats has not posted any reply... possible provokateur

I saw a commercial on the History channel, had some money, went shopping, saw it at the mall, went "Why not?" and bought the game.

Now I blaim Chieftess for why Civ3 takes so long to play! :p :coffee:

There is one way you could make amends though... :mischief:

I played a bunch of Civ 3 at a friend's house and then I liked it so much I bought Vanilla Civ and PTW together in late 2002. Then I got Conquests fairly soon after it came out. I did play a little Civ 1 a long time ago, not enough to really get into it though.
