It was very strange. I happened to wander into this place with many strange boxes. One of these strange boxes had "Civilization III" on it. Wanting to delve further in this conundrum, I asked a local. He stood behind a counter, and spoke this strange tongue called "English". Not understanding his incoherent babbling, I instinctively pulled out some green paper as a sign of good will, and wondering if we could trade. The native was fascinated by the green colorization of the paper, and seemed to be fascinated how there could be a face depicted with such accuracy upon said paper bills. I was able to walk out, both of us richer in our own ways, and I wondering if I would ever encounter a tribe so strange as they.
I first got my Civilization III disc from the library. I borrowed it, because it looked "intruiging". After playing for some many hours, I returned it, and bought Civilization III and PTW, and Conquests. It was quite the harrowing journey.
MrRats...wow! 8 is pretty early to start playing a game like Civilization. Trading tech to the Zulus just to make them happy probably wasn't too bad a thing to do...I'd hate to think that Civilization might teach you NOT to share
I started playing Civ 1 when I found it on a computer in the computer lab during my first or second year of college (we had 386s back then!). I was hooked, and spent way too much time in the library not studying. Civ II I bought when it came out. SMAC was an awesome game that I played after I graduated from college. Civ III I waited until about a month ago, and got it for $10 from the internet.
Yeah, now that I'm OLD (32), and can wait until the latest game is also old and I can find it in the bargain bin, I save a lot of money on PC games.
I originally got hooked on Civ2 on the Playstation by a "friend" (damn him!). I saw Civ3 on sale at Circuit City for $10 and bought it around Xmastime. It only took about a month before I realized I HAD to have C3C, and bought it at my local gamestop for $30.
I'm 'only' 15, and have enjoyed CivNet (windows version of civ1) since the age of 7/8. It was my favourite game, then I got Civ2, and for my birthday only 1 and a half years ago, I got Civ3! And the best part was I got Conquests for my Christmas 2003/2004 present, when I thought I didn't have the right computer spec to run it! I was so happy!
I can still remember in CivNet, wondering why little black 'clouds' (actually pollution) appeared every so often in the industrial age, and when I built my cities in a nice pattern, why they all starved. And doing OCC in Civ2 nearly all the time on Chieftain, and when I felt like it, building another city or two. The turning point came when I found CivFanatics, all the strategy has shaped my Civ playing into more advanced. So, that's my life story!
A friend had a pirated copy of Civ3. I started playing and within a week I was so hooked I went and brought my own (legal) copy. Who says piracy isn't good for publishers?
There is no way I could get it in Indonesia. I even contact Atari, and they couldnt give a good answer. I had to contact my brother for C3C. BTW, my brother who have been studied in US, brought Civ III around 2 ago. I have been wondering how to get Civ IV. ask my younger brother again
