How do I ask the AI for 'favors'?

Hi folks,

In my current game (Prince, standard, random map) I'm playing as Siam and have been friends with
hiawatha from the start of the game till now, industrial era.

so far everything have been peachy, open borders, research agreements.. the works..
up till the point where he keeps asking for favors.. usually 5 GPT for 30 turns
and recently 6GPT.

I have been obliging him for now, but getting annoyed as I cant seem to ask for favors back.
Question is, how do I ask the AI for GPT for free:confused: or is the direct ans a 'No you cant ask for stuff for free'?

The closest I can figure it is to Demand for GPT, but the AI treats it as an insult, even if we're friends for centuries..

Yep, just choose "Declare War to" and the right nation, then ask them what they would want to go to war. I did this and Siam only asked for 117 gold to attack Egypt which I immediately did. It allowed for my CS in peril to survive as the egyptian armies had to go fight somebody else.

Sure you can! Just go to the trade screen and put something up on their side with nothing on yours. Whether they agree to it is of course another story, but you can ask.

Umm, that's not asking for something, that's trading.

When the AI "asks" they are really using the "demand" feature. It just comes across as begging when you're friends with them. Using this feature yourself will have a negative impact on your relations with them. Denying the AI when they "ask" you for something also has a negative impact on your relations.

This feature really annoys me, because the AI never asks for a trade, they always either demand or beg.

I guess I wasn't clear. It's only a "trade" if both parties put something up. I didn't mean "use the 'What do you want for this' button", I meant throw something up on their side *only* and simply click "propose". (I actually think Leoban meant to post in the "How can I bribe the AI to DoW?" thread, but it's impossible to know unless he indicates one way or the other.)

That's why you use the trade screen to ask - no negative diplo hit. I remain convinced the two methods are different and a demand is always a demand.

Sorry, wrong thread, I thought I was in the "how do I bribe an AI into declaring war to another one?".

 Yeah, you can always ask, but they'll never agree. The best you can get with this "Propose" option is to ask them to stop war against a CS, sometimes they comply. But neverfor money/resources, at least in my 280+ hours of playing CivRev 2.0

Thanks for the replies guys! :)
@Leoben: no worries
@Monthar: yea, the AI rarely trades, they either demand or beg. seems unfair that
we cant do the same thing back haha
@Guardian: you are right, so far I have never succeeded in asking for moneyfrom the AI..
well except when I have already beaten them into a pulp.. but theres another word for it..hmm,
oh! its called capitulation! haha

Lol, that's about all I've ever gotten out of them too. To be fair, I haven't given them much more than that back.;)

I had this is in my mind also. In Civ 4 you could do it, but I think it only worked once for each civilization (which must of course be friendly with you).

Demands and Requests are actually handled the EXACT same way by the AI. So, when you refuse a request, it is treated the same as refusing a demand.

Minimum interval was 20 turns I think, safe bet to ask again for a small favour was every 30-40 turns, while if you've asked earlier and they've refused it resets the counter.
