I recently had a 500GB HD installed in my laptop.

They installed Vista for me.. but not much else.

This is causing a bit of a headache.

The biggest however is not their fault. My laptop knew my parents house's wireless password... so would automatically sign on.

Now of course, it does not know the password.

Problem is.. neither do I!!

I am sat at the computer the router runs from right now.. how do i go about finding out the wireless password? ( Huawei Echolife HG520b router)

Parents do not know. They only got the wireless router, years ago, for my laptop. We didn't write down the password, or forgot where we did!

How do I reset it?

Thanks!

Perhaps it on the wireless router itself? My isp put the password of my wirelessrouter on the router. Search for, probably on the back or on the bottem.

Perhaps it still has the factory default password, you can try to search for it on the internet.

If you want to reset, there usually a button that say "reset":mischief:

I pressed the reset button.

All that has achieved is that the wireless router no longer works.. even on the computer it is connected to physically...

I am now having to use the original nonwireless router.

You have said that many times to me over the years Zelig, CFC is faster for me.

A very clever indian man just sorted it for me over the phone :p

I had only needed it once, 2 years ago :p

I know it now, set it as something obvious (to me and my family)

Write it down, and tape it to the router. Normally its not a good idea to write down passwords, but in this case, anyone with access to the paper will be able to bypass it anyway, so there's no harm. Also, obvious or not you may forget it again if you don't use it for another 2 years.

There is a program called aircrack-ng. I know it is for linux but I believe there is a windows port as well. As long as your router uses WEP password you should be able to crack your own network in about 10 minutes.

Yes, I also recommend aircrack-ng and there is a windows version, though most antivirus softwares detect it as malware, it works. It also works for hacking/leeching your neighbor's wireless internet connection. Just make sure you get the right packet data or else you'll get the password as a mosh pit of letters and numbers.

The version I use is 0.9.3 (for windows).

hehehee

You could have just plugged your laptop in with a regular LAN cable and reset the password from the web interface.
