A bit of a general query i realise but i was hoping someone may be able to gie me some ideas. For a bit of background I have Test of Time and play on the 4th difficulty (king?) usually and always on the large world map. My problem is that it kind of becomes a bit of a chore when it should be getting interesting. I start to expand my kindom to different continents and it seems cities take turn in having civil unrest. The other thing is that my opponents seem to build bigger cities much quicker despite being on pooerer terain. I tried playing on an easier levels and it seemed too easy really and i just ended up invading everyone rather than exploring the world and expanding. I have only just discovered this site so appologise if this has been covered before. Any advice would be welcomed. thanks. Oh, also, i've read about different scerario's that you can play in Civ 2 which sound good fun but don't seem to be able to play them in Test of Time. Am i right in saying this?

Do you play the ToT version of the "normal" game only, or do you also play the Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Midgaard versions? With those you get not just one map to explore, but four.

Also: When playing the "normal" game, have you ever played the Alpha Centauri aliens? That's my own preference, as until somebody discovers the advanced technology for space travel, I get the whole planet to myself. To make up for the lack of contact/trade with other civs, I build the Great Library ASAP, so I get the benefit of a few extra technologies.

ToT's Original game is virtually identical to the standard game for the Multi-player Gold Edition (MGE), so you should be able to pick up plenty of tips from the Strategy & Tips sub-forum. Take a look at the sticky thread over there.

Scenarios made for earlier versions of Civ2 are incompatible with ToT. There is a conversion utility called CivConverter, but from what I've seen it's probably best left for those people with a bit of experience in scenario design. Check the Scenarios links on this page. There you can find links to a number of scenarios written specifically for ToT. In addition I've posted links to a bunch of Fantastic Worlds (FW) and MGE scenarios that have been converted to the ToT format using the aforementioned CivConverter.

The Extended Original game is the "normal" game?

Considering that I usually play either the Science Fiction or Fantasy games, the Extended Original seems "normal" (as in "standard") to me. :D

gethin, welcome at Civfanatics. :band: [party]

With the King level, the AI has an advantage over the human player.

For good Civ 2 Tot scenarios you should have a look at Apolyton, too. Visit there the scenario league and the Craddle of Civilization:

(Both are on Catfish´s /Wobbegong´s link-list,too).

Thanks for the replies fella's. I just play the original game but will try the extended original as you advise. I'll also have a look at the other links a bit later. thanks for including them - they should increase my enjoyment of the game so thanks very much.
