Many glasses have a special coating to prevent electrostatic attraction of dust so you might want to get some those.
For cleaning my glasses I use normal dishwashing detergent which is quite cheap and as good as any other cleaning agent (perhaps except ultrasonic cleaner but I don't like the afford to fill and clean the us cleaner)
Easy way out would be to wait until there is a homogeneous layer of dirt on your glasses so you won't notice any single spots. Not a good solution but the only one I know not to clean your glasses again and again.

Depends on what your glasses are coated with--some of those coatings can be degraded by detergents so only use weak stuff. I use tap water and my shirt to clean mine, and the glasses are clean enough for me (although it could be better with one of those sonic cleaners, but I don't have the money to throw around for that).

As him for a trial pair. He already has your prescription so a trial pair will be free and more potential business for him, so he shouldn't have any problem with it.. unless there is some sort of medical condition preventing you from wearing them? Once you have a trial pair you can try it out and see if contacts are for you.

I wear both, much prefer contact lenses, but Aimee said they're not an option. I believe that the reason is better than "the internet has not persuaded me".

I have a strange issue. My glasses can't seem to keep clean. I wash it and all the stains go away. But within a minute or two the stains come back.

I even tried the fancy glasses cleaner and that didn't help. Neither did distilled water or alcohol swabs or dry cloth. Any suggestions?

Yeah I know, but a lot of optometrists will do a free fitting and give you a free trial pair if they think it might lead to business. At least from my experience

And she did say it's not an option but I wonder if that's just a personal fear or something medical.

I wash mine with water, and use a dry paper towel to clean them off. Sometimes this leaves smears, and I'll get rid of those using the cloth that they provide you.

This. I rarely ever use soap because the water is usually enough. But if there are some smudges that won't wash off, I use dish soap.

A small, clean cloth is best for touch-ups during the day and Windex, or other glass cleaners, work well at home on occasion.

Do you have glass lenses or plastic ones? Glass lenses are easier to keep clean. In addition, the various anti-scratch coatings that optomotrists offer on glasses can actually make your glasses appear to be more dirty because the coatings eventually wear off and become messy. These coatings will wear off more quickly if exposed to bodily fluids such as sweat or saliva. So don't let your dog lick your glasses.
