How do you get those little circles to show up?

When I look at pics at this site, I always see little circles showing certain resources. When I play, I never see those circles unless I recently discovered it though. Is there an option to turn those on?

They are on by default as far as I know. You should see the recommended build sites when you have a settler selected, and the recommended terrain improvement with a worker selected.

There is an option on the first page of the game options menu that says something like "Do Not Recommend Unit Actions" or something like that. It should be unchecked by default.

Oh no, not the blue circles that tell you were to build improvements. I mean little graphical alerts that show you what resource is where. I saw a pic at the story board where a guy could see a circle showing cows, one showing copper, and other little things like that. I was wondering how to do that so I could see resources more easily.

For example, when a forest grows, or a unit is built, a little symbol shows the general direction that it came from.

Just above the world map there is an yellow button with a "?" that turns on the resource locations.

There's a button over the minimap that toggles it on or off. I think it's the second from the right, just mouseover them and you'll find it.

This is a job for: The Manual!

Theres a button in the lower-right hand corner of the screen which turns on the resource view.

Ctrl + R
