How do you like your burger?

It's not a subjective thing, if you chomp down on your rubber boot, that is going to give you a taste that is not present in beef.

It's like claiming that your bananas taste like copper.

So, you're saying everyone tastes 100% the same then, yes?

No, that's specifically not what I'm not saying.

Copper is the only thing that tastes like copper.

Pennies taste like copper because there's copper in them.

Bananas don't taste like copper because there's no copper in them.

Ah, but what if you bite into a banana and it tastes like copper?

You seem to be missing that critical note of information.

I think Zelig would deny the possibility of this happening, which I tend to agree with. Not because these weird bananas don't exist, but that he is denying that this degree of subjectivity exists in taste.

Too bad he's wrong with having that opinion. They've gotten taste receptors mapped and studied, but they have no idea what that turns into when it signals to your brain.

I googled this, I'm an expert.

I didn't so I'm not ;). You did state earlier earlier though that undercooked meat tastes like rubber though, and when it was pointed out that possibly the similarity is due to mouth feel and texture, not taste, stand by the claim.

I'm not convinced that if I gave you, say, rubber flavored ice cream and undercooked meat flavored ice cream that you would genuinely say they tasted the same. But similarly I'm not convinced that everyone tastes everything identically.

So basically I think there is some subjectivity regarding taste but I think you way overstate the degree to which it exists.

It doesn't really matter what you're convinced of, since it's not your taste buds I'm tasting with.

Well no, it doesn't matter. And no, I'm not going to state unequivocally that undercooked meat and rubber do not taste alike to you. However, to question this claim and put it to you that the earlier suggestion that the similarity may be due more to mouth feel and texture is valid, is, IMHO, worthy of discussion.

However, the great taste debate must be put on hold as I'm off to make some Vegemite toast and head off to work. Now there's something I challenge you to say tastes like something else!!

@madviking.....thus my qualifications to get involved

Best burger I've ever had is at Brodburger here in Canberra. Medium or medium well half pound pattie, brie cheese, mmm.

More generally I like a burger with the usual lettuce cheese tomato onion beetroot.

It gave you the opportunity to explain.

Should you want one. It also signals that I don't know why you sighed.

What purpose does your last post serve? What purpose does any post serve?

No. I meant what compelled you to make a post fellating madviking's use of word? What purpose did that post serve? My post served a purpose; it told you that you are a spammy git and your schtick is getting very old. Your post served absolutely no purpose to speak of.

For the record, yes, I was talking about texture and mouth feel. If undercooked meat genuinely TASTES like rubber to you then I'm sorry, maybe your taste buds hate you, because I can honestly say I have never heard anyone else make that comparison so it must just be you. It's hard to see how cooking the meat longer would resolve that situation though. Generally when people make comparisons between food and rubber I (justifiably, I think) assume they are talking about texture. My bad if I misunderstood you on that count.

Also, In N Out burger rules, it is honestly one of my top reasons I love living in California.
