How fast do you play? (total time played)

Civ4 is coming in the mail soon (hopefully by Friday)... I don't understand the concept of Epic or Marathon or whatever those speeds are... they didn't have them in Civ3. What changes when you play different speeds?

In order of quickest to longest - Quick, Normal, Epic, Marathon.

For example, marathon is a slower game because it takes much longer to learn techs/build improvements, etc. Turns take less time, instead of one turn taking ten years like it would on normal it'd take only two on Marathon (in a specific time period).

Cody,

The speeds also change the rules for culture expansion, food/growth requirements, hammers gained through chopping forests, and maybe a few other things.

To the OP, I've never had a game under 6 hours. My average is 15 or so, even if peaceful. My epic/micromanagement/warmonger games will take 25 hours or more.

Huge maps, automatised workers (cannot bother to micromanage), Noble difficulty, modded epic speed equals to about 30-40 hour games...

yep, 25-45 hours per game: huge, epic, very slow computer. Probably half that time is waiting between turns and some more is while I cook dinner, talk on the 'phone etc.
