After having crashing problems with Civ4, I noticed I had other games crashing. Always, said a cache .dll was causing the crash. After trying almost all fixes listed here, still same problem.
I started checking hardware. Found I had a bad stick of memory. After swapping memory, still had a crashing problem.
After more testing, found I had to bump voltage to memory. Stabilized the memory, but I still had a crashing problem. After much searching and testing, found I had to bump voltage to video.
Here is my system:
P4 2.8, 1gb of ddr corsair ram, and a Evga 6600gt
before volts ram 2.5 video 1.4
after ram 2.8 video 1.6
PLEASE check your hardware websites before changing, but this has solved my problems.
Have ran Civ4(1.52) for five hours and no crashes. (rest of games have not crashed since)
Lesson learned (again) it may not be software causing the problem.
