It's just a fact that Civillization in general doesn't lend itself to multiplayer very well, especially because of its game length. I would like to conquer fellow humans, but its just not very feasible
For the record does starting a hot seat game with three human players teamed up versus 3 teams of 5 AI teamed up on Emporer count as multiplayer....when you play all three human players
I am still trying to find out this balance...because the strategy one can develop is very interesting, plus by playing a single player multipayer game it eliminates all the messaging
It just goes to show that while 85 people have voted 'not at all', they probably should branch out into multiplayer... if they could just put the awesome single player mode for a minute
I've never tried Civ online, but other turn-based games I've played online have been incredibly boring. Disciples 2 was the last one I tried. In that game, during your opponents turn you basically do nothing. You can't work on your own turn and you can't see what he is doing. So it's do your turn then do and see nothing for 5 minutes.

That's a good point. If you love a war game then nothing beats playing multiplayer so you need to learn which techs is most needed for war in Civ4 and annoying the rest. If you actually want to build a civilization then you won't like multiplayer. IMO Civ4 isn't bad as a war game.
MP all the way for me - you simply cannot beat the intelligence of the human mind (in general, I know there are some people who should be excluded from this) for delivering the best challenge.
This applies to all games (Q3 for example was great, and you could complete it on nightmare without too much hassle - then you'd go online and someone would carve you a new ring!)
For me - the AI are no great challenge (and I don't like the big help / cheats they get at higher levels, playing on an even keel with an intelligent opponent is far better IMO.
