I started a poll like this one before Civ4 was released, and I was curious if the results would be different after Civ4 had been released for a while.

Here's the link to the old poll if you're curious about the results:

I personally have a regular (Direct IP) game with some Friends of mine, and we play 2 hour sessions 2-3 times a week.

So has anyone changed their minds from about Multiplayer in Civ4 either for or against after they bought the game?

I played several hot-seats. That is it. Multiplayer is not my priority.

I have never played a multi player game...I am sure I will one day but as of yet, that has never come.

I hate mp, always end up next to some 14 year old nerd whose only positive teenage experience is to fight a war with me from turn 1. Although it is extremely gratifying to clean said 14 year old's clock (noob? I was playing civ 2 when you were in kindergarden!), I still prefer a more peaceful game. These are a rarity in mp.

Despite what many game developers and game media types like to believe, the majority of game players do not play MP online. Most people still like to sit at home and kick the butt of the AI.

Well said.

I was quite worried when I heard Civ IV was multiplayer focused. I don't care about that!

Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have harmed the singleplayer experience, so yay for that.

I like computer games because I can just start and stop playing. Committing to playing with other people would get in the way of that.

I ususally play many games online (FPSs, RTSs, etc.), but this is a turn based game... so I don't even have any sort of desire to even see how the multiplayer will play.

Perhaps I'll play online with few ppl that I know personally if they ever get into this game, but currently I have never played this online.

i alt tab to much out of the game to do other things to be able to play multiplayer.

I like to take my time, sometimes taking up to half an hour to complete a single turn. So no multiplayer for me.

I actually stopped playing Civ III single player, I only played it multiplayer. While I'm not to that point yet with Civ IV, well actually I was before the 1.52 patch, I got this game largely because I knew three other people who were getting it, and we try to start/continue a Multiplayer game at least once, if not twice a week.

For me, multiplayer beats single all the way.

I love playing multiplayer. The human mind is way more interesting to play against than the AI's.
Yes, you must prepare for war in multiplayer. But, if you manage to keep out of fights (maybe overtake 1 neigbour), you'll usually have a wonderfull economy and be ahead in technology.

Also, I managed to addict a friend of mine to the game. :D

i like playing HOT-SEAT... that makes politics more interesting than dumb AI!!

i did not like Multiplayer over the NET becasue it takes ages to complete few turns.. also people keep going in and out!!! i would prefer playing against people i know with agreed time of connection and duration of time per day... something like hot seat... i like also connecting with a friend to play a network game...

I love multi-player, but never play with 'strangers' over the net. I play against my hubby or kids, either hot-seat, or on 2 of our computers that can run the game, using direct IP connection. We tried playing by selecting the LAN option (as we do with other games) but this never seems to work for us.
However, I also love single-player mode, as I'm usually awake 3 or 4 hours before the rest of the family, so I don't have to wait for them. And there are a lot of days I am home alone, so I can play any time I want. As long as I still cook supper. :)

I always intend to, but I have never got round to playing multiplayer. I played a hot seat game on Civ 2 but found it tedious and probably never will do again.
