How long can you run Windows ME without crashing?

Well, I gues I am just priviledged (a common state for me), having the only fuctional copy of ME in the world.:king:

well i make it very stable what i do is just close all the programs running at the start except for explorer to completly free up my ram then if i open at most 3 programs then it comtinues to be stable so theres my info on what i do to make it not crash give it a try it works for me

I think ME was made for people new to windows, but i can't prove that. It doen't crash for me, but if it goes to sleep mode, The sound shuts of.

Hmm let`s start a competition:

The one with the longest active period get`s a price:

The newest update of ME :D

I have ME on a 200 Mhz machine at my office with 32megs o' ram. It serves as a printer server an on-hold music player my windows interface to the website (I work for an internet company) and as my PC. It crashes every 3-4 hours.

Well it surely is much more stable than ME that’s for sure.

My computer illiterate mother forgets to close programs and often has a dozen programs running at a time, and she never reboots her computer. Often times I'll come in and it won't have enough ram to display the desktop icons.

As long as you don't start any programs, make any mouse clicks, any keystrokes, breathe on the computer case, or glance at the computer screen, Windows ME _should_ keep running without a crash. But don't bet on it.

a problem i have is that win me sometimes crashes during the start up, but i know how to avoid it. otherwise is me working quite good, exept that the filled ram sometimes forces me to restart the computer when i'm going to watch a movie.

This must be a trick question! I was under the impression that you don't run ME, it runs you. :) That's why I put it on the kids computer.

That's child abuse! Report to Social Services immediately.

I think everyone needs to get the cure to th WINDOWS virus. You go to a computer store and look for almighty Linux. It deletes the virus and crashproofs your computer, it also runs faster is more flexible and fun. So when the health of your computer is at stake get the ultimate solution, LINUX! Thats L-I-N and U and X

LINUX? Crash proof? Gee we just had to reinstall LINUX on our firewall due to a power failure. [The power failure thing is another problem more related to security than actual power problem.] The file system was corrupted and would not boot after regaining power. Not the first time I've seen this with Linux, but when Linux goes bad it goes very bad. Sure you just have to reinstall and restore settings but I thought that was a Windows type action. :)

But seriously, yes, Linux does have a purpose but I'm not running out and converting programs for it. ;)

Does it irritate anyone else that Microsoft essentially advertised XP as "Buy this version - it actually works and doesn't crash often!"

They are implicitly admitting that:
1) Their old version sucked
2) You need to pay $$$ again because they made a non-working product before.

XP is a good product, yes. But needing to pay for it when I got a machine with Me just months before XP came out - that is irritating.

Of course, Windows is not alone in this. Apple is equally guilty. I bought an iMac for a second machine 3 months ago, partially on the promise of easy networking with Windows. Uh, it wasn't easy until their OS version "Jaguar" came out. And I needed to pay FULL PRICE on Jaguar to upgrade. Grr... That being said, the iMac is now a fantastic second home machine and truly does network flawlessly with my XP machine.
