How Many College Athletes Can't Read Beyond A Grade School Level?

If they don't get scholarships, why do the athletes play? (yeah, I know, I'm sure it's a stupid question)

Bear in mind that almost no British university athletes, and certainly none at the best universities, have scholarships based on their sports. Yet those students have been known to compete in the Olympics.

So this discussion about Binghamton was part of the inspiration for this article I spent the last two weeks on, breaking down the financials and success odds for the 30 or so odd schools that have recently joined D1, and whether that decision was justifiable.

I think given this data, I can understand why Binghamton made the jump, but of course they bungled the actual process terribly. For lots of these schools though, I would argue that it only going to be a financial burden on the students, with little chance of real returns. I thought a few of you might be interested:
