I'm looking at the snazzy new hex-core, I'm waiting for the Mac Pro refresh, Civ V should be sheer awesomeness at hex cores at 3.6GHz+ each core :yumyum:

enough about me, what say you?

Not if it hasn't been designed with that many cores in mind. Multi-core are pointless if the software wasn't written to take advantage of them. And I strongly suspect that Civ 5 will only make use of dual-core at most. Maybe quad but I doubt it since many people don't have that kind of system yet. Software developers are limited by the lowest common denominator in systems, and at the moment that's pretty much dual-core.

I have a four core at the moment, will buy a new AMD 6 core as soon as I can.

Whats with those pole, 12 cores
Plenty of high quality MoBos have 2 sockets for processors 2x6=12

So Firaxis’ development team threw out the old engine and Baker re-architected a new graphics engine from scratch. The idea was to make the graphics engine smartly threaded, not simply task threaded. The new graphics engine spawns numerous small jobs, which make more efficient use of multi-core CPUs. Aiding this effort is a new message-passing architecture, in which the main game engine communicates with the graphics subsystem through messages. Messages can be prioritized, and even serialized as needed.

looks like more cores=better, besides the hex core can be taken to 3.6GHz easily so if you water cool it you can do even better,

PS hyperthreading duobles the max thread your computer can handle

Probably gonna go with an AMD Thuban 6 Core or Interlagos 12/16 Core processor, time & clockspeed deciding if I go for the Interlagos upgrade.

23 cores here.

Anyways, I've got a dual laptop and a quad desktop. Don't know which I'll use, maybe both.

Tri Core? I haven't heard of that.

I have a quad core laptop and a quad core desktop pc. I think I'm good to go. If I'm feeling generous, maybe I'll send some pentium4 people my spare cores so they can play too.

A murderously overclocked, liquid cooled, nearly jet powered, AMD quad core system that bends the laws of time and space, and nearly rips off my mascara when I turn it on.

Failing that, my sweetie has a pair of i7 systems with quad Radeons in them for work. I'm sure she won't miss one of them... Will she? :mischief:

On second thought, looking at the new graphics, I'd better switch to liquid helium cooling, and jack up the front side bus... Although, I do like Dale's idea of stapling cores together. ;)

Quad core here. I think, can feel the ciV to the bones...

 I do have access to a dual quad core (8 cores total) and 8 gig RAM desktop PC........ could use that. ;)

You, sir, have way too much money and should give me some :).

I'm waiting for the (overdue) MacBook Pro refresh, which will either be an i5 or i7. With the companies I care about pumping out OS X games (Valve, Blizzard, hopefully Firaxis soon, too), I'm thinking about going from the 13" to the 15" MacBook. That will depend on the specs ...
