How many nukes do you build?

I use the same setup for every city I build.

*4 Mech Inf.
*1 Stealth Bomber
*2 Stealth Fighter
*1 Battleship (If applicable)
*1 Aegis Cruiser (If applicable)
*1 Nuclear Missle
*1 Spy
*(1 automated Engineer roaming around outside)

So I end up with, on average, 50-75 nukes in my arsenal at any given time.

I keep them handy because you never know when a fleet of AI transports will come rolling up to your coast (Spies can't reach ships, obviously). It's a lot easier to take out 8 units on a boat with 1 nuke than 8 alpine troops knocking on your door.

I always use Fundamentalism (occasionally switching to Democracy to buy AI cities and whatnot), so shields and cash are never too much of a problem.

May I ask you how often you need all of these in your cities? The AI hardly ever launch an attack against me, and if they do it's usually not that bad. I play civ2.42 tough, and I've heard it's worse in MGE:)
Wouldn't it be a better use of your resources if you didn't build all these in your cities, take the loss of the city and just buy it back?

Jesus man! That's armed to the teeth. 50-75 nukes? Cruise missiles are better at attacking the kind of targets you are talking about. 50-75 is over doing it. IMO nukes are better used for threats and imtimidation than for actual uses in a war.
 
I agree with Ace & Ren -- once Nukes are out of Pandora’s box, I’ll make sure to be a member of the club. It hasn’t happened for so long now that I feel almost out of touch with that reality.

Regarding the ai wonder building activity, I’ve seen them start after I’ve started, switch after I’ve started, switch and finish (in the same turn) one that I’m building in both Classic & MGE versions.
 
Never, it costs too much.
3 Armors or MechInf per city and Bomber or later StealthFighter.
A 6/7 Battleship and 2/3 Transports, 1/2 carriers and plenty of airport(FastBuilt) and an army of engineers for suppling in roads.

That's it.
 
I already told about the nukes (10-13 subs with 2-4 nukes each). But as you all tell about the conventional weapons I though I'd do that too.
In each city I have:
2 Mech Infs (3 in capitol)
1 Armor
1 Stealth Fighter (2 in capitol)
1 Spy
2 AEGIS Cruisers (if applicable) one stationed inside the city and the other cruising nearby.
1 Sub (if applicable) cruising nearby, not carrying nukes.
2-4 Riflemen around the city in order to slow down attacking enemy and Barbarians.
1 automated Engineer

In addition I have "the attacking army" maintained by more productive cities:
5-6 Battleships (stationed nearby potential enemy)
1-2 Carriers (stationed nearby potential enemy)
10-13 Nuke Subs (stationed nearby potential enemy)
AEGIS Cruisers (escorting Carriers and Battleships, cruising around)
Stealth Bombers (on Carriers and Airbases)
Stealth Fighters (on Carriers and Airbases)
Armors (in Forts nearby potential enemy)
Howitzers (in Forts nearby potential enemy)
Marines (in Forts nearby potential enemy and defending Airbases)
Paratroopers (in Forts and Airbases nearby potential enemy)
Transports (here and there ready to carry troops and Freights around the world)
Engineers (where ever I have ground units there is also at least one Engineer ready to build new Forts and Airbases.

Yep, I like to make myself seen. All this makes counter-attack easier. I don't have to start producing units after the sneak attack as I have all the needed troops ready to move.

That requires a hellva lot of shields and gold to to build all this. Are you doing all this under fundy?
