... players would we get if we decided to celebrate the arrival of Civ Complete for Mac with a Succession Game for Mac players?

Assumptions:

- The software's delivered before hell freezes
- We play on Macs
- We choose the difficulty and other game parameters based on the player prefs.
- It's prolly on Conquests so we all get to learn what this newfangled stuff is all about, maybe using one of the new civ traits ... or both?

Vote in the poll and comment here. (Poll votes are public)

I want to be connected to the whole gaming communety, not be a mac-paria!

If anything, C3C for mac should be celebrated for the fact it closes the gap that has formed ever since PTW was released. and patch 1.29 did not officially made it to the mac.

With C3C for the mac, mac civers can finally join with the rest of the communety again, join the c3c succession games that they no longer could after PTW! (ok, so mac-PC multyplayer didn't make it, but lets not focus on the flaws, shall we)

so why tighten the clique and make a racist/fashist/computerplatformist-mac-users-only succession game? ;)

Sorry, that wasn't the intention. If you really think that's what this suggestion signals then I'll delete the thread forthwith.

I fully intend to use the new release to join in with the wider community as well. I've already registered my interest in a new SG, currently all-Windows other than me, and hope to play the COTMs as and when other commitments around here permit.

I guess I was thinking that Mac players on Conquests will need to do some catching up with our Windows friends, and a friendly SG might provide a supportive group in which to do it.

The sense I get from AlanH is that if we work together to discover the nuances of the possibilities newly available to us, which will probably still differ subtly from the PC side of the mirror, then we will may more ably participate in the wider community. I'm all for working together. I've never participated in a SG, and I'm much more of a dilettante than a mini-maxer ( I usually play on the easier settings, so I can try out new ideas), but I would look forward to a chance to interact with the people in the Mac/Civ community.

We'd set it up in the normal SG forum. I was seeing this as a friendly, relaxed way to get to know the game and each other .... unless you want to enter a Mac team in the next SGOTM as well or instead?

[EDIT] This made no sense as it answered a prior version of Dojo's post that mentioned SGOTM. So I've adjusted it slightly.

Yea, I must of edited my post whil you were reading it. But, a mac team in the SGOTM could be an additional game. Are they Conquests?

SGOTM is run for all three versions of Civ3. The next one should start up in a month or two. As I administer and referee the contest I can't play on a team, but if you can rustle up six or seven keen players it's usually good fun.

We have a maniac game designer who likes to set up interesting and original challenges. The last one was played as Hydrophobic America on an archipelago map. The required victory condition was conquest, and you couldn't build any boats. The current one requires you (Scandinavia) to arrange for India to win by Spaceship launch ... and you have to remain at war with India for the entire game.

I'll be a part of it, in case the german reselles will bring us the game early enough. Today they still don't know when it will be in stores. Sadly :(

No, I'm sorry. I failed to properly put my tongue in the cheek, but I've editted the post now and added the proper emoticon.

There is a tremendeous difference playing Civ or C3C on Mac vs. PC: CivAssist.

Since I now also own a PC, I made this experience. And the difference is really great: lots of support for micromanaging you cities, planning city locations etc. And more important: never missing a worker for trade, never missing a new tech or resource.

I have to confess that I now primarily use the PC and no longer the Mac.

But of course only for Civ, not for the serious parts of computing. ;)

PS: Giving this experience, I probably will NOT by Civ Complete for Mac.

PPS: Unless we get something like CivAssist for Mac.

Serious requirement? Anyone else?

Civassist is a .net app.. so has anyone tested if it can be run under Mono for MaxOSX ?
Personally I never use(d) civassist much.. I preferred CRPMapStat

Oh yes, indeed! Who else would come up with the strange variants you've introduced?

Yeah, why not? I guess we just about have a quorum, though it would get dicy if we lose anyone, and we seem to be a bit short of software right now. Those expressing interest so far are (alphabetically):

AlanH, Beamup, Blue Monkey, dojoboy, MacBaldrick, Macintosh.

We might be able to boost the numbers with audsquad, Fredrico, or waltham845 who all asked, "what's an SG?".
Best way to answer that, if it was a serious question, is to point you to the What is a Succession game? thread.

Here are some preliminary questions to get the ball rolling. Once we have an outline of the game concept and everyone's kitted up we can open a thread in the SG forum.

- What difficulty levels are you each (a) comfortable at and (b) prepared to have a go at in a C3C game?

- Have you played an SG before?

- Are you a warmonger, builder, don't care?

- Any preferences for map size and type, civs, .... ?

(a) comfortable at monarch, on my toes at emperor

(b) up to emperor

Yes, last significant game was a diety SG w/ tao and some others.

Not usually a warmonger. I'm more in to "build - isolated war - build - isolated war if necessary" pattern

I've never played on a map larger than standard, simply because of time. But, with a SG this may not be an issue. I generally use the default settings (temperate, etc.). I hate barbarians, hate them. Civ should definitely be one of the new ones, with the new traits (Agricultural :goodjob: ).
