Immortal, fractal, standard speed and settings, no tribal villages, no random events.

It's an okay map, not easy not difficult. I am not sure if my approach was correct.

Basically everyone had infantry and artillery very soon but my vassals researched radio and combustion at breakneck speed so I went to town with bombers and fighters. Nobody had air defence.

Are we meant to be able to see the other saves? Having an island city much earlier would of been good for 2c trade routes.

Yes but in my playthrough I didn't. That's why I posted the map: different approaches are possible. Do you want to have a try?

Your early tech path has me stumped. Did you oracle something or just get failgold?

In general, turn 140 optics is late (normally I would aim 115/120). Just risks missing trades. But if you get them you are in a stronger position with more developed cities.

I don’t think the islands are that practical pre optics (far away and monument needed?)

I’ll try and give it a go this weekend

Colonial costs will be a killer when you start crossing the sea. I guess moving capital might work. Happiness and lack of easily accessable islands is main issue here trade route wise. That and a lot of jungle. Maybe winnable but a lot of work. In the middle of another game so not for me.

I am aware of the late optics date, that's why I'm asking for help.

Correct, I chose not to settle the island because I needed another weak city to reach it. I would if I could directly reach it.

I like GLH here, both sailing & masonry are good anyways..at least with marble.
Guaranteed great economy later with Astro.
FIN somewhat boosts it as well..all cities have 3:commerce: coast as minimum to work.
Then city spam is basically how i would play this with Darius :) Squeezing them into all corners, no spot wasted.
