1. Please read my step by step set of instructions for installing mods.

2. Ingame Editor is a mod that you can install using the above instructions, and it will allow you to edit a live game.

3. Please do not post the same question in multiple threads.

So here I am - again.

I've had some trouble with the Ez7z software. When ever I try to expand the mod-file (in this case the [TSL] Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack), I end up with six to seven files that all need additional unpacking, and this is also where Ez7z is of no further help. That's why I installed something called BetterZip. I then changed the extension on the mod-file from .civ5mod to .7z, and that seemed to work. The mod was expanded properly, and I put the files in a single folder before I dropped it into the MODS folder. Finally I launched the game, activated the mod, and everything looked just fine and dandy, until I realized that I couldn't find the "Custom Game" option (which I know I've seen before).

So my question is: Why is the "Custom Game" option not showing? It seems to me that I've done everything by the book, but I still can't access the mod despite having activated it in the Civ 5 menu.

I don't see either of the problems you are describing.

1. I downloaded the Yet (not) Another Earth Mas Pack file and dropped it on Ez7z. I told it to expand the file into a new folder on my desktop, and it produced six folders, 13 .Civ5Map files, a modinfo file and a readme.txt file.

2. I dropped that complete folder into ~/Documents/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/MODS/ and launched the Steam version of Civ5. Then:

Clicked the Mods option in the main menu and enabled the Earth Maps pack mod.
Clicked the NEXT button
Clicked SINGLE PLAYER.
Clicked START GAME.
Clicked Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack.
Clicked the Load Mod button.
Selected a Map Type and other options.
Clicked the Start Game button.

The game started.

There was no Custom Game option, but the screen after Load Mod certainly allowed customisation.

Where are you looking? I have posted a sticky thread with a full and up to date summary of all the steps for both versions of the software here. Are those the steps you are having trouble with?

Since when do people read material and do research to solve their problems?

If this was twitter, definitely would hashtag this with #silverspoon

Hi Guys

I have been trying all day to get this work and pretty sure i followed the instructions correctly....i now have the mods button appearing on my civ 5 g+k game. But now i cannot click on any button and it says 'invalid version number' .

I am using steam and snow leopard.

what am i doing wrong?

thanks

Hi, welcome :wavey:

I've no idea what you have doen wrong. If all the buttons in the main menu are giving the error, then it sounds as if you may have messed up one or both of the MainMenu.lua files when you edited them (remember there are two of them in G&K, and you MUST edit them using a plain text editor - not a word processor).

I am going to try reinstalling the game and see if that helps. I will upload a screen shot of both lua files if that doesn't help. Really hope this works, can't understand why PC users just get the option outright.

You don't need to screenshot the lua files. Just copy and paste the text here.

Have you also replaced the xml file that was identified by iamadork?

Civ5 has been marketed strongly as the most moddable version yet, so I don't think it's hard to understand why Windows users get the mod option. The question you should ask is why Mac users *don't* get it ...

All sorted, :) i reinstalled it and followed the process again. If you are running G+K you need to place the installed panel in the g+k front end as well. I think thats what was missing. This is going to be great almost like having a new game for free..... thanks to everyone above for compiling the advice :D you are true geek legends :scan:

Just a note about the hidden Library folder on Lion and higher versions of Mac OS: if you happen to know how to use the UNIX-like command-line interface, Mac OS does come bundled with bash installed (under Applications->Utilities->Terminal). I've used many of the tricks above to get into the Library folder under Mac, but got sick of it all and now I just hop into the terminal and vi the files I need to modify.

Sure, but the Terminal and 'nix command lines are not for the faint hearted, and vi is no fun at all if you aren't familiar with it. If you *do* know about them, then you don't need any instructions on how to use them.

I'm just trying to avoid frightening the average Mac user. There are a million ways to access and edit hidden folders and files on a Mac, but I wanted to provide one simple, easily-described way for people who only want to do this one-time edit.

hello!
perhaps you (AlanH) or somebody else can help me too.... because my steam civ5 (gods and kings) won't do anymore :( . The game quits just when the menue should come up

I AM the average mac user. That's why I read the instructions AlanH put up (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=477763) very carefully.
1. administor privileges AND used BBedit
2. Found the gods and kings. app in the hidden userhome/library folder
3. modified both mainmenue files at #37 resp. #38 and inserted iamgoofballs "installedpanel.xml"

I also did steps 4-6. using the suscribed mods from steam and epanding them via keks in the (unhidden) civ mods-folder. But since the main menue does not even appear I guess steps 4-6 are not the problem here.

So what's wrong? Is it because my main menue is german? (like the whole game) Why can't I undo the changes? I mean I reinserted the old "installedpanel.xml" that I had copied ( or duplicated... - Is there a difference?) before und undid both hyphons but it still won't go back to normal...

I just realized that it's just a matter of a few clicks to delete the game and redownload it again with steam... which is what I am doing now.

- And found out that even after deleting and reinstalling, the game it still crashes after the intro. HELP!

When you reinstalled the game, did you also rename or move the Civ5 folder in ~/Documents? That would eliminate problems with that folder, You could also try deleting the preferences files at
~/Library/Preferences/com.aspyr.Civ5.plist
and
~/Library/Preferences/com.aspyr.civ5xp.steam.plist:

No I didn't... but I found my mistake, at last: I copied mods and maps in both directory that apparently didn't belong there. I didn't realize that the main menue wouldn't even start if I misplaced files there. And for some reason these files were not deleted when steam deleted the game... Puh, what a nightmare!

- But now everything is working fine! Thank you very much for going through all the trouble of setting up this thread and even responding so quickly!

I'm pleased to hear that you have fixed it.

I think Steam would get huge criticism if reinstalling the game also deleted all the user-specific files - saves, mods, maps, results etc. Hence my suggestion to move or rename that folder and the preferences files to check if anything there was causing problems.

Okay, so I've done all those instructions a couple times. The first time I did this about a month ago, it all worked and those mods are still in, even .civ5mod files worked. Though recently, I've done the same exact thing but nothing has changed. I've been installing all the mods as recommended, but they never come up in the mod menu. (I am using the steam version) Any recommendations?

Lol nevermind I'm just stupid. I put it in my old file when I had torrented the game a while back and then decided they deserved my money. Lol

Moderator Action: Moved from the sticky mods thread. I assume this was meant to be here
