Well the whole reason why the Bush administration wants to invade Iraq is because of oil, to finally create an US friendly diplomatic state in the middle east. Oil and water and the two resources that wars in the near future will be fought over. (hmm... maybe they should have created a water resource required to build aqueducts ).

Of course oil is a strategic concern to the USA, and it may tempt the USA to embark on unjustified or foolish military expeditions. However, Saddam Hussein ain't a choir boy, and it seems very likely that he would not mind having training camps in his country which might train units to do all kinds of interesting things. But oil is a powerful factor, always.

Here's my tips for you:

1.Try too always have a large milatary at all times. If you are stronger than them they wont bother to demand trubute from you.

2. Also always try to have one AI that likes you alot. It helps during wars and many other things like trade.

3. If you are weaker than the AI's don't screw with them. Do what they say and if they demand gold(just as long as it's not very much) give it to them, but once they start demanding from you build up your miltary for their stop.

If you have a tech or lotsa Gold, do something about it. Sell the tech, spend the Gold. The fewer things you ahve that they crave, the less they can demand. And while selling a tech cheap is stupid, havuing to give it away for free is a lot worse.

So either make sure they don`t dare to go to war, or make sure they only get things that do not widen the gap between them and you.
