check my signature for tips on happiness and health.

There is one way to get rid of over population sickness (national park) but it's a national wonder which means only one city can have it

thanx for help but even after i build aqueduct and granary still my city is sick like in mid game my capital city will be 14 or more wat can i do? and do u hav a video walkthrough to show step by step on how to play?

Don't let it grow that large. Keep an eye on the happiness and healthiness cap per city (the F1 key is the easiest way to do this) and if a city has no spare happiness or healthiness to grow into, don't let it grow. You can halt growth by building workers/settlers, or by taking citizens off food-rich tiles and putting them onto lower-food tiles or specialists.

Alternatively, let your city grow into unhappiness/unhealthiness, and use the slavery civic to whip away the population on something useful. Remember though, that there is a small penalty for whipping a unit/building that has no hammers already put into it. Preferably build it for one turn and then whip, but above all, don't be afraid to use slavery to its fullest - it is a strong civic.

yea but slavery will cause 1 unhappiness for 10 turns that is not good right? and wat about city improvements for early start?

Granary-wheat, corn, rice
Aqueduct
Harbor (if coastal)-fish, clam, crab
Grocer-banana, sugar, spice, wine
Supermarket-cow, deer, pig, sheep
Hospital

Know your buildings and resources (thanks Cabert) for improving health in your city. If you do not have the tech for the building or the resources then you can use the whip or run specialists to deal with surplus food.

Try and avoid unhappiness and unhealthiness if at all possible.

Surplus food is a GOOD thing NOT a bad thing, so learn how to use it properly.

Be sure though that you aren't spamming too many farms if you don't know how to run a farm economy. Instead, especially with Toku, you want to have lots of cottages to help develop your commerce.

thanx guys i got it how to manage my cities without unhappiness and unhealthiness 1 more thing i want to know is that is there anyway to skip the time victory in the game coz i want to defeat my enemies with latest technology but the time victory always gets in the way and game ends thats the only thing i dont like in civ games there should not be time limit if u hav chosen conquest victory right?

Just my take on the question -

Nationalism is my favorite civic, and it will help with over population.

The moment the population gets upset, conscript a new unit. It will cause a little unhapiness, but there are ways around that. And they'd be just as, if not more, upset by overpopulation.
And, as Munch says, Slavery is a good civic, as long as you use it right. That, and Universal Sufferage, will create a very productive civilization. After sacraficing a pop. for a building, pay for the next one, instead of continually antagonizing people.

ok thanx i didnt knew that and can anyone help me on how do i defend myself against barbarians they are annoying wen i build my new city they attack and destroy it before i can even build a warrior how do i defeat the barbarians where do they come from its difficult to find their base

The unhappiness is a small price to pay for the benefit of having your building or unit built instantly. Remember you only get 1 unhappy face regardless of how many citizens are killed with each whip. Slavery is not the solution to all your problems, but diligent use of the whip combined with keeping a close eye on preventing cities from growing too large will give you a strong start.

There are several strategy articles on these forums that describe the slavery system in detail. It really is an excellent civic and if you use it correctly (don't be afraid of the unhappiness penalty), you will become a much better player.

They don't necessarily have a base, as the can spawn anywhere in the fog of war. If you eliminate the fog by stationing sentry units on hills etc to 'fog-bust', barbarians are less likely to spawn. Also, it's a risk to send a settler out unescorted anyway.

Read up on some articles in the war acedemy as you can learn lots of stuff right there. You can find the articles on the front page, under civ IV -> war academy. there you can read about everything you want to know until you literally can read no more...

I do not think there is a video tutorial on how you 'should' play, if only because how you should play is drastically different every single game. TheMeInTeam does however have two video tutorials where he plays a game. You can find the links in his sig if I am not mistaken. it does however not focus especially on your questions.

If you want to know how to play properly, read one of the many many walkthroughs on these boards. I recommend those done by Rusten and BurN because they go into considerate detail and they helped me bump my game up from noble to emperor. After a bit of practise I recently beat immortal, using all the stuff they have showed me.

I get the feeling you want to have simple answers in your own little thread, but you must understand civ is a complex game with complex decisions. There are no 'best' ways of doing things, so anyone claiming they have 'the answer' for you should be mistrusted. The only way to improve is to absorb as many ideas as you can, practise, experiment, and keep whatever suits you while keeping all he other ideas stored away in the back of your head so they may come in handy one day...

Exactly. There are pros and cons to any move in the game, and it is a case of weighing up the situation in hand. If there existed a 'best' way of playing, the game would be nowhere near as popular as it is.

Colonization is a standalone game that does not require Civ IV to play. It is not an expansion.

I do not know if you will have warlords fully functional if you just buy BtS. I have the complete edition, and BtS is such a good expansion that I think it is a must for any fan. Warlords is also good I think, but I would never ever pick it over BtS.

So ur saying warlords is better or equal to beyond the sword? oh i didnt knew colonization is a different game alone sorry. So should i take warlords or beyond the sword? or both but i cant run both expansions at same time so it will be useless right?

You could try reading what he wrote. ;) BtS is better, as it has all Warlords has and lots more. (it came later) And yeah, no point getting both if you can help it as you can only play one at a time.

Beyond the Sword contains all the gameplay features from Warlords, but not all the scenarios. So unless you specifically want the Warlords scenarios, you should get the BtS expansion!

ok thanx i dont care about scenarios so i will go for beyond the sword then but 1 more question can i hav all the civlization and its units that warlords expansion has in beyond the sword

yeah, thats no problem... as he said, there is no reason at all to buy warlords unless you particularly want the scenarios.
