How To: Make Leaderheads! Ekmek's Guide

I have the blender that was included at the beginning of this thread. Also, the Vanilla leaderhead files only have eyeshadow. Is there more to them? Is there something hidden? I know that there have to be .nif or .dds files because of the abundance of leaderheads here on CFC using these leaderheads in them. Where should I look for the files?

EDIT: hold off for a second. it looks like a brand new blender was released 2 days ago. let me look into it for a day or so.

wow. ok lets start from the beginning.

1) for the vanilla leaderheads you need to get Pakbuild found in utilities here that will let you unpak the vanilla assets
2) forget the blender in the begining. lets get all new stuff.
3) go to this website: http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/Blender
4) download and install the python 2.6.2. click here
5)then get the latest blender the 2.49 HERE
6)the get the latest nifscripts HERE
7) who are trying to make and which leader is your base it will be easier for me to follow along.

So I'll do this after you've looked into the new blender or is 2.49 the latest version?

ok, we can do it with 2.5 for now but i've been needing to update my guide for awhile and i started today. i should finish in the next day or so if you can wait.

essentially its going to be a walk through of making a LH. The example used is to put Zara in degaulle's uniform. the steps involved will be the basics for making a LH. It'll be for beginners and if don't mind I'd like to test it out on you!

Alright! So I just wait for you to finish working on the guide? I just finished fixing my BtS so that should work quite well I hope. Does this also say how to put them into the game?

I'm having trouble installing python 2.6.2. Where do I unzip it to?

When can I expect the tutorial to be ready by? I don't know why, but the one at the beginning of the thread starts out with stuff that is hard to understand, and then goes pretty clear, but it feels incomplete to me. Will this one go over how to skin a leaderhead? I found another tutorial, and it talks about having done so, but I didn't understand how. Will it go over how to install the leaderhead in Civ? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just hoping to get some of this done before I go on vacation :p

nope, no skinng. but the complex intro part to my guide is fortunately no longer needed wit the newer versions of blender. with the newer version some of my old stuff still applies. I'm still working on the tutorial but you are more than welcom to dl and follow that sequence for install in the post above yours and give it a try.

Awesome. Just so I know, how do I skin? I did manage to do so several times when importing the .nif files from Blender into NifSkope, and sometimes it does show the original skins, but most of the time it only shows a white person. When I highlight, it highlights white, not green. Is that normal?

yeah those are normal and if you want to see it textured you need to hit that little square thing to left of object mode (it'll be in my tut). in nifskope if its white it means you are opening a nif without the art files. this happens alot if you open multiple nifs from multiple folders. it will only remember the first nif's folder, not the additional ones.

but for texturing its recommended that you get gimp art program with its dds plug-in plus use it with a paint program you are comfortable with I use PSP 9.0

I got NeoPaint for viewing .pcx files in Civ3, before I learned there are still some files there I can't view. I have PaintShopPro 1000 waiting to be installed. I do have a .dds viewer that works quite well for viewing, but I don't know how do edit them. Same for .tga files.

Alright. Also, how do you separate parts? I tried to make a beardless Charlemagne, but if I delete the beard, I delete his hair, so I don't know what to do about that.

Okay, thanks. Now just to figure out what to call him and what civ he'd be
