How to make units a different ethnicity

So I want to make my units the same color as Mvemba's. How do you do that? I have figured out all my countless other questions, but this one still haunts me. I can not figure it out. I have looked through other's mods but come out luckless!

You need to have a Cultures.artdef in your mod with a UnitCulture specified. See this example from JFD's Maori mod:

I'm going to piggyback off of this thread - I'm trying to add the proper building appearance and unit ethnicity to some city states I've added. I have the Civilizations.artdef and Cultures.artdef in my mod, but they don't seem to be working. What do I need to do in order to get them working?

If it's relevant, the ArtDef log shows these errors:
