HOW TO[with blender]: do a simple rig/assign vertecies with bones

Thanks guys. Before I get back at again. If I strip charlemagne down to bones, head (with hair) and hands and I have lincoln's suit do I need to join them in blender or would importing a 3ds of the suit in nifskope work for attaching the body.

Also I post the error get when I export the selected object in blender as a nif. I won't load in nifskope.

i dont convert to 3Ds ever...using your example, this is what i did... in blender, lincoln's suit now has NO hands or head, it is NOT joined to anything else... in object mode, select the clean suit only, and export it as, for example "lincoln_suit.nif".....then, go back to blender and open your charlemagne.blend file, with head and hands only.....IMPORT the lincoln_suit.nif....now, you have it as a seperate object in your charlemange.blend file....now follow the steps to scale it, if you need too....let us now how u progress....:)

I only use 3Ds when I want an object boneless. This way I don't have to de-rig if I don't want it to move on its own.

^ not sure if it occured out of luck, but when i "re" imported the FDR suit.nif back into blender, it was not assigned to any bones!, that's how i could assign them to the gandhi bones

ok this is where I'm at. I have stripped charlemagne except his hair and I have add lincoln's suit and tie. Attached is the nif. Now what path, tutorial, should I follow?

When I try and load this in nifskope I get an error that says: "nextblock doesnot start with NiString"
failed to load nif from [drive path]
98 vertex weights not found
98 vertex weights not found (yes it says it twice)

thx for the help

excellenet! and I installed 1.0.2 and it loaded my jeffdavis...I see that the hands are off do I use this rig tutorial or is there an easier way. can you hyperlink me in the right direction please :)

PS all the nifviewer links point to a 3dsmax plug in. what is nifviewer? is it part of another program or its own? and if its own can you paste a (better) link. thx

You just download the 3Ds plugins and give them their own folder. Then the sceneviewer will run. :)

looks like GOOD progress being made..:goodjob: :goodjob: , nifviewer is very useful and RabbitWhite has some really good tutorials on it's use :)

Its in the 3Ds plugins, you download them, give them their own folder, and run the sceneviewer.exe.

*New Idea*
Could you just delete the bones that you don't want in the torso (AKA head, neck, etc.) and in the head as well (AKA torso, clavical, etc.) and then combine the two without having to rig anything? I tried it once but forgot to delete the bones I don't want in the head.

  , i really don't know, but i wuold guess that deleting the bones and not haivng them assigned to vertices would be about the same, no movement.....i odnt know, but if u have double bones, it seems as though in my not run ?crash, and if u have the wrong bones assigned, u get messed up animations (I THINK...have not tested any of that out really)

I have no idea... :dunno: Try getting a different version of the sceneviewer. (3ds Max 7 plugins work for me)

ok I got it showing in sceneviewer (older version was that I wasn't runing 20.0.0.4 in blender :( ) now I'm following roland's tutorial. I posted the question in that thread but might as well propose it here. how do you do the trishape when the old leader doesn't separate the suit from the body where my new LH has charlemagne's body and lincoln's suit. And when should I delete branches that I don't need like Charlemagne's beard? I unglued these when making my leaderhead but they are not unglued in the oldleaderhead.
