I view myself as a progressive liberal (though I'm also very pragmatic, so I'm not always progressive or liberal). I like some ideas of Libertarianism too, John-LP, but some other aspects of libertarianism are too extreme. I voted Green btw.

I think the major problem in view of Libertarians is that people most commonly believe if a Libertarian government took power things would immediately change over, when in fact most Libertarians understand that it would be impossible and detrimental to do so right away. Libertarians mostly seek a gradual transition to a more Libertarian way of government.

Yeah but ultimately they want a totally free country, don't they? If they don't want that they'd better call themselves liberals.

addiv, Libertarians want a free country yes, but its not an anarchist country they want, you still need laws, but Libertarians believe laws should only be made to prevent crimes that hurt other people...and that government`s sole responsibility should be to protect the people from threats foriegn and domestic...

I can't these Libertarians challenging the national iron grip of the Reps and Dems in the USA.

America's two main parties will continue to blackmail the US people for some time to come...

No, natty, like Sir Oswald, or Enoch. :yeah:

15 options, and none I can really identify with !

Call me a hybrid European social-liberal moderate, if that makes sense. Pro free-market and individual freedom, but understanding the importance of the social safety-net.

Fortunately, there is at least a political party here that represents my ideology fairly well.

I, like many others, don't fit very well into the definitions of American politics. The party that is closest to me overthere is probably the Republicans with a squint of Libertarianism, whereas back here in Denmark, I'm a right-liberal. My party membership card says I'm a liberal, but I'm certainly not by American standards...

I am a member of the dutch liberal party.

My views in short:
-low tax
-make the secirity net tight, but only just enough!
-pro abortion / euthanasia, gays adopting kids
-pro legal soft drugs
-anti free gun possesion

And I think religion doesn't belong in politics

I am a right wing liberal too. I cannot stand the over-socialized-system in Holland! The principle of social security is good, but just paying loads of money to anyone whoms little toe hurts.... :aargh:

I'm... indifferent!

Join the Indifference Party today! :p

A cross between Green and Libertarian.

Strong civil-rights protection, and no laws against consensual activities by individuals. A strong Bill of Rights.
Balanced budget.
Stronger local gov't.
Environmental and consumer protection and fair, rational resource mgmt. Long-term energy/environmental policy.
Adequate but not adventurous military.
Minimal gov't subsides -- mostly in the form of social spending for individuals -- but mass transit is a focus.
Publicly funded preventative care and education.
