How would you run your dictatorship?

I'm sure we'd all love to be dictators of a nation at one time or another, so, I was wondering -- how would you run yours? Socially, economically, and militarily. Also, say what country you'd be dictator of (please, no world powers -- US/China/Jap./UK/Rus.)

I, for example, would be the dictator of the former Yugoslavia during the 1970's and 1980's.

I'd employ my own form of government -- permitting private ownership, but only from the naturally born citizens -- no foreign investment. National 15% sales tax on all goods and no capital gains tax. Minimum wage of about $2US/hr

But all media -- all television, radio, and newspapers would be government authorized. No other literature, music, etc. is allowed to published. All entertainment is government approved.

My daily address to the nation is at 7:00PM on all television stations and radio stations, I wear a standard black suit, white shirt, and a dark green tie. Hair combed over to one side with no beard/mustache, and no make-up.

All borders secure. Nobody from the outside gets in here without my direct approval.

Ally with Soviet Union, let them set up a few military bases. Keep a neutral stance on issues, though. No delegation to UN, EU, NATO, etc.

All outpatient hospital visits and schools (primary/secondary) are free. Inpatient visits and college require payment or voucher.

Decent-size ground army, maybe 100,000-120,000 voluntary troops, no drafting. Army is all men, no gays. Women distract the men, and for the gays, the men distract the gay soldiers -- that's why.

No abortions. The same thing that an expensive abortion can do, a fifty-cent condom can do, just three months earlier. Use your head.

Police patrol streets, armed with shotguns and sidearms. If you are caught trying to mug someone, well, that's the end of your head.

Minimum wage: Zero. People will have their work effort assessed and paid according to that. However, unlike communism, a doctor will be paid more for the same workload as a factory worker, but if they don't work hard enough, they don't get paid. No taxes on sales of food and clothing, but heavy tax on everything else.

But all media -- all television, radio, and newspapers would be government authorized. No other literature, music, etc. is allowed to published. All entertainment is government approved.

Same here. No tabloids, just big broadsheets that make the brainwasing more credible.

I would be in control of Peru.

It would be an absolute dictatorship, not masked in any way. I would have several hours of one day every week set aside to listen to the grievances and complaints of my people. I would deal fairly and justly, earning some popularity. Offices of power are shared among a few of my best friends, childhood friends who would be competent yet happy to have their position, leaving me with no fear of betrayel from them.


There would be no police or firemen. These duties would be handled by the standing army. The army would consist of a number approximately one and a half times the size of the Brazilian army.

A secret police force would be the highest authority, short of myself. They are indoctrinated in loving me, worshipping me. The secret police have unquestioned loyalty,
The State Religion would be Varianism, a form of religion based upon the fact that I am god. All other religions would be considered unlawful, and offenders would be taken before me. I would usually sentence them to re-education camps, solitary confinement, or hard labor, depending on the person's physical condition and age.

In my prisons, homosexual rape would be prohibited to the point of death. "Eye for an Eye" would be the law of the land, with a few variations; for rapists, they would be gang raped and then sold into sexual slavery, all by members of the same sex.

A murderer is sentenced to a life of hard torture, after watching his family executed. (You may notice the trend, eye for an eye x 10) Child Molestors would be sentenced to a life of hard torture, as well. Any other crimes I decide are particularly bad, I can sentence to a life of hard torture. There is a torture prison set up, with the inmates being tortured for the rest of their lives, yet tended to carefully to prevent early deaths. A few people I know from the USA would be abducted and sentenced to this prison.

Income Tax of 35%. This goes towards state provided services.
Sales tax does not exist; rather, there is a "gross company earnings tax" explained later on.

Free abortions. Free medical care. Retirement package provided by government. Businesses pay a tax of its gross earnings, a percentage that rises on a scale in accordance with the companies earnings. This helps pay for all state services.

Free schooling; schools have four tiers. If a kid is disrespectful towards teacher, has a bad attitude, skips classes, doesn't apply himself for a long period of time, he/she is bumped down a tier. Highest-tier school graduates recieve highest pay, second highest tier get second best deal, etc. Naturally doctors, lawyers, etc are in the highest tier, however other jobs such as farmer can also be in the highest tier. Lowest tier is bare minimum living wage.

Massive government projects aimed at beautification of the country.

For the first few years that I am in control, 'death squads' patrol the major cities, taking care of the very pronounced problem of street kids. They exterminate the kids, and soon enough there is no longer a problem with crime.

Soft drugs are legalized, but heavily taxed. Hard drugs are banned unless produced by the government. We sell to local South American drug lords, along with shipments to Asia and Mexico. Any competition in my country is destroyed utterly. Often, government sponsered raids into other countries will take care of outside competition. This form of income is used for most government projects not covered under taxes.

I have a herom of beautiful concubines (virgins before they came into the concubine business) who travel with my entourage. I have a few palaces, no more than ten. Any suspected flirtation with my concubines is swiftly met with severe punishment, usually involving castration and sentencing to a labor camp. If my concubine is proved to have been unloyal, she is tortured for one day in the main herom area. (While allowing the concubines to not witness directly, if they choose, however they will still know what is going on) After the day of torture, she is executed.

Public executions of minor crimes occur every few weeks, in order to set the example. If this method is not effective, and generates ill will towards me, it will be ended.

Overall quality of life for the average Peruvian is increased by my leadership. Honest work becomes the only way to make a living, opposite of the conditions before my reign.

Immigration is allowed, but only after they pass several required classes (with tests) at an Immigration center. Emmigration is permitted unless the Government has reason to believe the emmigrant is a criminal or leaving Peru with intentions of practicing criminal acts in another country, or acts that would be detrimental to the State.

The entire country is modernized through government programs. The government is very supportive of the USA, and in turn the United States "looks the other way" on a few minor issues, such as drugs and human rights. Technology and trading rights are exchanged for ending the Drug flow into Mexico and subsequently the US, and military bases, etc.

Alternatively, if the USA thing doesn't work out, then we ally ourselves with China, allowing Chinese military bases, etc.

My policies would differ slightly from the previous ruler, with no anti-Semite focus. I would be a combination between the historical Fuhrer and Rudolph Glober, from Stephen Fry's alternate history fiction "Making History"

Thus, I would put a high emphasis on scientific advances, without the handicap of losing scientists to abroad, and would employ the nuclear bomb against Moscow and Leningrad in the late 1930s. Churchill would be assassinated, seemingly by Soviet suicide agents, in 1936.
Scandinavia would be assimilated into the empire, and France would be taken over. A peace with an appeasing Britain would be negotiated; at least until the collaborator King and government ask to join the Reich

I would content myself with an expanded Reich to the east, and would keep Speer as architect. Rohm would be shot earlier, and used in a Horst Wessel kind of way, although we would still keep the Horst Wessel Song.

Athletes would be trained heavily, and given as much steroid assistance as necessary to win all the major events at the 1936 Olympics.

The military would be heavily built up, along similiar lines to reality, but long range strategic bombers, such as the Ural bomber, would be put into construction.

I would encourage a high birth rate, and have secure borders.
My ministers would differ from reality, as they would not be so nasty and downright evil. This is not an official Evil Dictator thread, so I don't have to be so evil Evil policies of the Nazis, such compulsary euthanasia of the mentally ill would NOT ever be implemented.

The economy would be centrally run, but the great corporations would not be persecuted in a Soviet manner, but would be happy with the good labour environment of the corporate state. Conditions for workers and ordinary people would be good, and the people would be very happy and well off

The police and secret services, such as Gestapo et al, would still have extreme powers, and laws would be very harsh, including public execution, and the use of camps for political opponents (only labour camps, though) The HJ would be universal, and propaganda disseminated through all arms of government and public life.
I would address the populace on radio regularly, and on propaganda film.
Leni Riefenstahl would still have a job.
Conscription and labour service would still exist, and the Luftwaffe would be more than a ground support force, the Kriegsmarine would embark on building a large fleet of capital ships, battleships and carriers, as well as an Untersee fleet.
The Wehrmacht would be mechanized, and equipped with very good tanks and artillery. Infantry would be issued with assault rifles.

Racial policies would not be used, except for entry into the SS. As said previously, subordinates will be chosen carefully, so Himmler will be left to farm chickens, and Goering popped with a pin.

America would be kept cooly distant, and Japan ignored, so that we don't get into any little brawls with them.

I would not be insane, nor would I ignore my advisors, and would indeed delegate authority to those who could do the job best, whilst still not getting any ideas.

Basically, aiming at a scenario like "Fatherland", but a Nazi state without their heinous policies and participants, for the reason that this was perhaps the most secure totalitarian state in its time, given that we cannot choose the USSR in the throes of Stalin.

Press would be free to be stupid, but if they step out of line, I'd discipline personally.

The death penelty would encompass more than just murder. Murder would be allowed as a punishment in rape/molestation cases as long as the person was caught in the act or on tape or something. That is, as long as we knew without a doubt they were guilty. Otherwise, the death penelty wouldn't be an option.

I'd address the people whenever the heck I wanted to. I'd wear something...nice. Un-dictator like.

I would own an extensive property in the middle of my territory; far away from the borders and possible attack from Arkansas or Louisiana.

The arts would be well-funded by heavy taxes. Physical education would be important, but not the most important thing.

I'd set mine up in Hungary, probably. Somewhere in close enough proximity to RM's Yugoslavia so I could:

1) Beam in some Radio Free East Europe so that all those poor Yugos get some of the real news from the outside world. Maybe a little music as well.

2) Accept the refugees that are able to escape, despite the walls built around the country to keep all the people that wanted to make a dash for freedom in. Those that weren't shot trying to escape would be welcomed with open arms. The refugee problem is als due to the lawlessness on the streets (there are rumored to be policement patrolling the streets, but it is also rumored that the Yugoslav gov't is having troubles paying them, so they have turned to looting and protection rackets).

3) Expose the shoddy treatment of peasant Yugoslavs. The death rate from minor illnesses even is staggering. Hospitals regularly turn people away because they can't afford inpatient treatment on their $2 an hour wages. RM to peasants: "Tough sh!t".

This should be enough to have the major powers impose harsh economic sanctions on a government already running dangerously low on cash. RM, blind to the suffering of his people, continues to poor money into his military. Eventually, he attacks the good people of Hungary, at which point the US forms a coalition, bombs the hell out of Yugoslavia, and replaces RM with a Democratic for of Governemt. RM goes to trial at the Word Court in the Hague.

I have my elite and hot Amazon shock troops, pretty and expendable!

My tanks:
Heavily upgraded Tiger Tanks and Maus Tanks also comprise my mechanised forces.
I have a vast army of infantry in Hannemogs, because I like the name.

My troops also hide in Wilderstandnests, for the same reason.

My artillery:
Nebelwerfer with nuclear tipped warheads…installed in all buildings of my military.

My OTH radar 88mm Air Defence system also stops any enemy bomber attacks.

My citizens:
I hand out random cash prizes and make televised humour shows for them.
My plebses are already totally devoted to the wondrous ENEMY ACE ™, but to
Reinforce this, I have platoons of councillors in the form of amazons or handsome
Snipers, who find and placate my citizens with sex or social activities,
If that doesn’t work, they shoot the ingrate sods.

My henchmen are all trusted and have been indoctrinated from birth to follow me.
The enemy could offer them nothing; my guards regard me as a heroic comrade.

My 2nd in commands are respected and I always take time to listen to them,
The are all made rich by me, so the enemy can offer them nothing either…

My Illuminati contacts provide me with cash to fund my far-reaching reforms;
Health, education and the arts are fully cared for by my capable Amazon executives.

Stalin-class robots and ninja guard the borders of my arboreal realm.

All media and books allowed, the coating of mind-control drugs and sounds stop

My police force would be comprised of Hannemog driving snipers,
Who smile and wave at the happy citizens.
