HRY3 - Requiem for the Monarchs

Okay, here's my attempt at a dotmap:
(not posted as an image, so this page doesn't take forever to load)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/HRY3DotMap2.JPG

The non-green dots are what I consider to be the important spots.
The red dot southwest of Athens is especially important. Can you say "worker factory?"

What do you think? Any parts of it that you disagree with? Feel free to offer suggestions, or even make your own dotmap.

That's an awful lot of overlap in our core, especially this early on. I would wait and see just how close the AI's are before going with such a tight build. Admitedly, I'm usually pretty haphazard in terms of city planning, so please correct me if I'm wrong; I generally rely heavily on war-mongering in most of my games. If by some bizzare twist of fate we end up on the mother of all islands, than something like that would be perfect in generating enough commerce and science to let us research on our own for awhile.

I do like the dark red dot as our next city, as it has even more food than our capital (3 wheat and flood plains!), and can really crank up our expansion efforts. Disease will be irritating, of course. We also might want to found a city on or near one of the eastern greens and maybe make a shot at the Great Lighthouse, depending on if and when we make any contacts. Dark red is far too shield-poor , but the greens have some nice high-yield squares, so the Lighthouse or the Collossus is at least a possibility, especially since we're not playing on Emperor.

Just doing some more brain-strorming, and it's REALLY unlikely we are alone. I would make the dark red dot our priority then, otherwise we'll have to deal with the AI stealing our land and strategic resources. There's bound to be oil up in that tundra, which the AI will of course know about long before we do.

Don't worry about the overlap, DH. It will be millenia before our cities even use up all those tiles. Personally, I prefer a tight build, but I respect your opinion too.
We're not alone, though. When I loaded the save, I saw a grey border far in the south that I believe is India. But still, it is odd that we've been pretty lonely so far. I agree we should pick out a good spot for the Lighthouse. Maybe in Corinth. Getting contacts with other continents is always a good idea anyway.

Elvis1985: Go ahead. We'll wait.

Pre-turn: Trade Writing to Portugal for Masonry and 20g. Trade Masonry to India for Mysticism. We are still down by Warrior Code.
Athens switch to Settler. Thermo switched to Warrior, and sends its Hoplite to Athens.

1 1475 BC: Send Alexander on a slow walk through the woods toward Athens. Wouldn't want our precious king to get hurt out in the wilderness.

2 1450: Alexander is unfortunately mauled by a bear, but he survives.

3 1425: Athens Settler -> Settler, Thermo Warrior -> Hoplite
Delphi Worker -> Worker, Pharsalos founded on black dot -> Temple
New Settler headed for orange dot.

4 1400: Lux down to 0% since it's unnecessary right now.

5 1375: Philosophy researched. I choose Map Making as our free tech. Research set to Literature, due in 18 turns at 80%.

6 1350: Trade Writing to India for Warrior Code.

7 1325: Alexander is attacked by a pack of rabid beavers in the woods. He manages to beat them to death with his scepter.

8 1300: Corinth Hoplite -> Great Lighthouse

9 1275: Athens Settler -> Settler, Delphi Worker -> Worker
New Settler headed for dark blue dot.

10 1250: Bloody and tired, Alexander limps his way toward Athens.

Notes: Portugal has Horseback Riding, and will trade it for Philosophy. I'll leave it to the next player to decide whether to trade or wait for a better deal.
Not sure if Lighthouse can be built in Corinth. It probably needs more infrastructure first. Maybe build an exploring Galley now and build the Lighthouse later...

I would say not to build the Great Lighthouse. IMO, We aren't planning any invasion to other continent before Astronomy. Possible contacts we get by suicide galleys. Securing own continent first.

Preturn: Fine. Wish Corinth was a bit farther south, picking up some of that bonus grass, but should be ok. Increase science to 90%, Lit due in 8. Do some creative renaming for flavor; Athens is now named Alamut, with Alexander as the Old Man of the Mountain.

IBT: Northern Warrior attacked by barb. Redlines but kills the barb. Another barb appears from the mists

1. Warrior falls back from the second barb to heal. Trade Philosophy for Horseback riding with Portugal. Both India and Portugal are totally broke, and remain so throughout.

2. Argos founded, intended to serve as a supplimentry worker factory as I plan for Delphi to shift to settler production relativly soon, as it is growing quickly and has a couple of hills to help out shield-building

3.Thermopylae Hoplite->Hoplite

4. Portuguese start the Mausoleum. Portuguese construct the Collossus.

5. Athens Settler->Settler

6. Scooby Scooby doo, where are you?

7. Literature->Math is 9, breaking even.
8. Dum Dee Dum Dum Dum
9. Knossos Warrior->Library
10. Kill the other barb finally. MM delphi to pull in more shields, switch to settler, due in 8.

Summary: Portugal now has Code of Laws, but won't trade. Ghandi researched Math, lowering our research time to 5, so we finished it. Research started on Currency. Thermopylae is our only source of military ATM. Still have the GL in Corinth, but it will most likely serve as a prebuild for the Great Library, which is now available.Assassins

So, I'ts my turn. And finally I can play ... :) One question: I am allowed to attack barbarians, am I not? (Is this right English? I am totally not sure).
But first I have to dl the patch. :)

happy new year mithso

That's why I asked. I'm not sure at all. First I thought, you couldn't, but in the above texts, it seemed to me that they attacked barbs. :) therefore I asked. :)

so, back again. I want to say two things:
-we need workers. Argos is pretty slow in producing
-I am a idiot. after I'd made the screenshot I closed the game and opened paint. and then my computer crashed... :) So, sry I've no screenie (but nothing interesting happened)

In the mist of the year 1025, the old man of the hill is murdered by mitsho, who's now the emperor of the great greek empire!

1 (1025 BC)
  • rename the 'old man of the mountain' to 'mitsho' :p (the next one shall change it too) and he stays in Alamut.
  • Corinth changes to Great Library, which will be fine in ~129 rounds (:eek:). The next one shall decide about this
  • the warrior in Thermophylae goes to Athens, waiting forthe settler to guard him

2 (1000 BC)
  • Mycenae founded in the South of Delphi -->worker

3 (975 BC)
  • Alamut: settler -> settler

4 (950 BC)
[*]moving
[*]Argos: worker -> warrior
5 (925 BC)
  • Corinth hooked up

6 (900 BC)
  • Mathematics is researched -> 'the one which gives courthouse' (forgot the english name)

    7 (875 BC)
    • mitsho is having a bath in his 'great' palace in Alamut

    8 (850 BC)
    • horses hooked up
    • Heracleia founded in the South on a green spot near the iron -> bibliothek

    9 (825 BC)
    • Alamut: settler -> settler; the settler goes north to the (?) spot. Which is just norht of Alamut south of a mountain.
    • Delphi: settler -> settler; the settler goes to Knossos, next plaxyer can decide!
    • The Zulu finish the Oracle! It's a sad day for Greece!

    10 (800 BC)

The tech you are thinking of is Code of Laws.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking with Corinth. It has far to few shields to realistically get a wonder any time soon. I was not paying attention to what the date was; starting a prebuild earlier would have worked out. Ah well.

@Mitsho just in case you didn't know... a bibliothek is a library

Consider this my got it. I'll post sometime today or tomorrow

:lol: dictionary u mean? Actually, I don't mind it when u talk in German, but I'm not sure what everyone else thinx of it :rolleyes:

technical difficulties right now :devil2:
my turns (plus pic) will be available tomorrow afternoon/evening or sometime Monday...sorry for the inconvience

wie sagt man 'mfG' auf Englisch, bitte?
