Humankind Game by Amplitude

Well, there goes the backstory of one of my original characters, a Malay guy originating from Srivijaya in present-day Sumatra. 500s AD maritime SE Asia is a question mark. Is Langkasuka a fictional creation too? What about Funan?

Will Amplitude reveal the last 10 factions soon? Or is the release date for the game being pushed back?

Can't say specifically about Humankind, but a DLC for Endless Legend, one of their other games, has been announced as delayed - not a good sign, in my opinion.

Having your headquarters in Paris when France and Europe in general are waffling back and forth on COVID policies is probably not helping matters . . .

I would hope this means they put everyone possible on Humakinds last straight.

Hope springs eternal.

On the other hand, a delay might mean time enough for another Open Dev we can play, which would almost make up for waiting a little longer - especially if waiting means they can Get It Right on release.

I'd much rather have a good game from the beginning than an early game that has to be patched to be playable.

100%
I would also rather wait and maybe play some OpenDev, if project need some more time to get final polish. Rushed game is forever bad, but delayed one is eventually good. (by some game designer, I don't know, I don't have Switch :p)

I think the content for Endless Legend was being handled by an external company they contracted to support that game, they already made the last expansion for it so it is not nessicarily an indication of Amplitude's status but I'm not sure.

If there is a delay I hope it will be annouced soon and I can rebook my day off!

Another of the inestimable advantages of being Retired: all I have to do is tell my wife I will be Off Planet for at least 48 hours . . .

Is it possible that they would announce a delay this close to the release? Do you remember some examples of companies doing that?

Personally I wouldn't complain, as I definitely won't have time to play this game until July.

Given the extra uncertainties introduced by the pandemic and government/societal responses to it, I suspect that examples from 'normal' times might not be appropriate.
Look at the immediate example of Miami - opened up for Spring Break crowds, then had to call out SWAT teams to break up Spring Break crowds that produced a 'superspreader' event. Now put yourself in Amplitude's shoes, with offices in Paris, a major urban and political concentration that will probably see immediate government response to anything, and I doubt that they can plan more than a week in advance for what working conditions will be like in their own offices, let alone sub-contractors anywhere else in Europe or the USA.
If I were them I'd be working all out to produce a good game on time, but prepared to announce a delay whenever changing conditions make that impossible to accomplish.

Today is going to be one month until the announced release date of Humankind.

Yet we don't have any new info yet

*I hope Cat doesn't scold me for being impatient again lol*

If Amplitude still plans to introduce the remaining civs before launch, it's pretty clear by now that the release of the game will be postponed.

My new theory is actually it will be one a day on weekdays for the 2 days leading up to release IF and only IF they stick with April 22.

Thanks for posting that it was cool to see them break down the French culture's bonuses. The doubled charge bonus of Curaissiers sounds very fun!
Now that I think about it, there's an interesting gameplay progression from the Frankish Franci Milites with their improved charge to the French Cuirassiers with their even more improved charge...

Now, on to business, though: I come bearing news that may not be unexpected, but may be unpleasant to hear for some:
We've decided to move the release until August 17th.

The short version of it is that while many said Humankind was great in the OpenDev, many also said it could be even better, and we want to take the time to make it so.
The long version is available over on Games2Gether, including a list of what we're working on.

It's a good call, the game was great but more time was certainly needed.
